Story
As the daughter of a drug dealer, Wavy knows not to trust people, not even her own parents. It's safer to keep her mouth shut and stay out of sight. Struggling to raise her little brother, Donal, eight-year-old Wavy is the only responsible adult around. Obsessed with the constellations, she finds peace in the starry night sky above the fields behind her house until one night her stargazing causes an accident. After witnessing his motorcycle wreck, she forms an unusual friendship with one of her father's thugs, Kellen, a tattooed ex-con with a heart of gold.

Very concerning as it normalizes child sex abuse.
Reviewed: 03-11-25
This books is beyond disturbing. Listening to what is supposed to be a sweet love story that is actually child sex abuse is discussing and disturbing. This is not entertainment, it is normalizing an adult male taking advantage of a vulnerable, abused girl. Super creepy. So sad people would like this book and not be out ranged.

I loved this sweet, heartfelt story!
Reviewed: 03-07-25
For me, this was a wholesome story about life. In some places it reminded me a little of Tom Sawyer or Stand By Me. It’s a summer story with the main character and narrator a 13 year old boy. There are themes of unexpected death, forgiveness, family, and faith. I loved it!

Story
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Ok coming of age story with a horrible ending
Reviewed: 12-28-24
Why would an author write a sweet summer coming of age story to have it end with such an awful ending? Blah.

Boring. Slow. Lacking character development.
Reviewed: 12-19-24
Ugh. The pace of this story is odd. It’s so, so, so slow and then important events happen at lightning speed without details and without follow up. There is minimal character development, and a lack of follow through with story lines. It seems like a good rough draft that needed a really great editor to pull it together.

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Story
As a 41-year-old man confronts his own mortality in this collection's title story, he recalls his Spokane Indian father's chilling death from alcoholism and diabetes. Another tale features an eccentric salesman pursuing a married woman from airport to airport. And then there's the film editor who sees nothing wrong with altering footage to fit preconceived views - until he becomes the target of media distortion.

Reviewed: 09-26-23
The story was interesting but what on Earth happened to the ending??? The story jarringly stopped. There were too many loose ends for the story to end abruptly. The writer is good, I say this was the editor’s fault. A good editor can detect a choppy ending that does not fit with the book. So much potential….
