Story
Eva Kavinsky wakes in a dark cellar, with no memory of how she got here. Imprisoned with her, seemingly at random, are four men. The only way out is the trapdoor in the ceiling – and it's locked. The single clue about what brings them all here is a cryptic message sprayed onto one wall. Connect the dots. Repent. A camera fixed high above reach is livestreaming this whole nightmare to the world. What confessions are they meant to make to their unseen audience?

It was an okay story overall, but the ending ruined it for me. It was hard to connect with any of the characters.

Story
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

The initial parts of the book worked well and I was engaged. Then, suddenly, the plot took a left turn into the twilight zone. IDEK what the author was thinking.

Anni Taylor is hit or miss with me. I either find them fascinating, or unutterably boring and illogical. This was one of the better ones. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this is one of my favorite books.

So many errors!
Reviewed: 09-04-22
I didn’t have any issues with the style of narration unlike many others here, but I was incredibly frustrated at the number of mistakes the narrator made in the text. I don’t know from what god-forsaken volume the narrator was reading from, or if she improv-ed words, or was speaking them from memory, but the changes were unacceptable. In some cases, the substitutions even changed the meaning or intention of the sentence. This was a poorly produced edition. I am so excessively disappointed; even offended. Are the shades of Austen to be so polluted?! Badly done, indeed!

Billy Harney is back
Reviewed: 06-21-22
While not as thrilling and heart-wrenching as the two previous installments, this was a good work in the Billy Harney series. We didn’t get as much of Harney-family shenanigans in this installment, but, for me, the most emotionally resonant parts of the story were involving such scenes. I’m not sure if there will be more books in this series, but I sure hope so. I’ve become quite fond of the Billy Goat. The narration was excellent as usual.
P.S. One big negative of this series is a disproportionate number of strong female characters getting fridged.

Awful Narration
Reviewed: 06-02-19
This story as such is not one of Christie's best efforts, but the terrible narration makes it almost unbearable to listen to. I hope they put out another audiobook with a different narrator. I have enjoyed Emilia Fox's other efforts, so I'm not sure why this one went so horribly wrong.
