Here we are again

I think what I love most about Brent Week's stories is that I'm far too caught up in the action and the characters to try to imagine what will happen next. So it's a bunch of twists and turns and not knowing how a paragraph, let alone a chapter, will end. Or the book. What makes me happy is that there is a path for more. And I want to know...what happens next.

Story
Moon has spent his life hiding what he is - a shape-shifter able to transform himself into a winged creature of flight. An orphan with only vague memories of his own kind, Moon tries to fit in among the tribes of his river valley, with mixed success. Just as Moon is once again cast out by his adopted tribe, he discovers a shape-shifter like himself... someone who seems to know exactly what he is, who promises that Moon will be welcomed into his community.

This was a decent story, but nothing about the plot or the performance kept me very interested in knowing what's next. Works as a stand alone story for me.

Best of the series
Reviewed: 11-06-21
If I had -read- this book instead of listening to Stina Nielsen read the audiobook I'd have given it only 3 stars. Her narration took some insipid dialogue and gave it the sarcasm and righteousness missing from the text. I might have given the story a slightly higher rating but the amount of sex scenes that felt like all the other sex scenes were just too plentiful. And I enjoy some sex scenes, but for goodness sake, let’s move on already.
After listening to the last three chapters, the strongest Armentrout has written by the way, it shows that her strength is in the righteous anger and resolution scenes and not so much the sex.
I'm all in for the last book. Now I really want to hear how this ends!

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Really enjoyable Sci-Fi
Reviewed: 08-18-21
I think reading this book would have been good, but having Ray Porter narrate this story made it so easy to get lost in Andy Weir’s world. It absolutely bumped it up to 11. Most fun I’ve had listening to a story in a very long time.

Story
There are nearly 1,400 known varieties of wine grapes in the world - from altesse to zierfandler - but 80 percent of the wine we drink is made from only 20 grapes. In Godforsaken Grapes, Jason Wilson looks at how that came to be and embarks on a journey to discover what we miss. While hunting down obscure and underappreciated wines, he looks at why these wines fell out of favor (or never gained it in the first place), what it means to be obscure, and how geopolitics, economics, and fashion have changed what we drink.

What an interesting listen! Now I know how all these foreign names sound, but I’m not sure I could spell them. I’m going to get the hard copy of this book so I can write down some of the wonderful grapes, vintages, and regions I’d like to get wine from. Very enjoyable, interesting stories and views.

Great Slavic mythology

I enjoyed the story. Really solid mythos and magic. I might have loved it, but the monotone off the narrator kept me from losing myself in the tale. Her accent was nice, but it was so stilted and without the passion some passages needed. I’d have enjoyed reading this more instead of listening.

What a ride! This is the definitive ending to a really, dark and bloody yet intensely interesting trilogy. It went nothing like how I expected or wanted and despite some heartbreak I wouldn’t want to change a word. Well, I might supply a few alternatives to the word pale, but otherwise, no changes. This will go into my “reread” rotation, still a rather exclusive group of literature.
Might need to kiss the author if given the chance. To any publisher who passed this story by, get a new job.
