Story
Paige Lancaster, single mom and prodigal daughter, has returned to the East Coast from her prestigious, well-paid job in Los Angeles, writing for the smartest detective series on television. Something terrible happened to her back in Hollywood. Okay, two terrible things, one featuring a misplaced tire iron—and now she’s broke, homeless, and living with her widowed mother and eight-year-old daughter, Izzy, in her Connecticut hometown.

Couldn't finish it.
Reviewed: 01-03-25
One of only a handful of books I've ever started and didn't finish. Right from the start, the monotone narrator drove me batty. The storyline bounced around so much and so quickly it was hard to follow. Too much like work instead of pleasure. Skip this one.

Story
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Story
Orphaned at a young age, Edith Stuyvesant Dresser claimed lineage from one of New York's best known families. She grew up in Newport and Paris, and her engagement and marriage to George Vanderbilt was one of the most watched events of Gilded Age society. But none of this prepared her to be mistress of Biltmore House. Before their marriage, the wealthy and bookish Vanderbilt had dedicated his life to creating a spectacular European-style estate on 125,000 acres of North Carolina wilderness.

The story was very interesting for those who love the Gilded Age, but some writers should stick to writing. This narrato'rs voice was dull and mostly monotone leaving out any excitement in the story.

Disappointing

The story line was fun, but there were too many details that are not typically Irish. The voices of a couple characters were distractingly bad and there were no Irish accents. The ending was abrupt as if the timer went off.

I didnt know the plot before I started this listen. Once begun, I couldnt stop. Maybe it was the storyline. Maybe it was the characters. Maybe it was because I felt I grew up with Kate & Tully. But ultimately it was because, in the end, I felt a part of this life. It drew me in so.
I also lost a best friend way too early in life. I'll never get past that loss. This book brought out feelings I've kept locked away for 25 years. Thank you for this trip down memory lane and for the happy tears I've needed to cry.
