I feel the author conflates being an empath with being introverted and sensitive. As an empath who is also an extrovert, this did not provide much help for me. it WILL help someone else though, as it is well thought out.

Binti is a rich and masterfully told story about a young woman from the Himba tribe who finds herself accepted to a galactic university, but gets more than she bargained for when the spaceship she is in is attacked by an old enemy.

the narrator does a brilliant job bringing this story to life. The pacing of this story is fast and it so refreshing. You get a great perspective with the protagonist, Binti. To any fantasy and science fiction readers looking for something new, exciting, and refreshing, get this novella - YOU WON'T BE SORRY! :-)

The writer did a great job of building up the world of 1800s St. Petersburg, Russia. The scenery details were great. But the story dragged on in many places. Also, the characters we're predictable, and I'm over the whole love triangle bit. I found the female protagonist to be not as sympathetic as I would have liked, as she made many choices that she knew went against her best interest - and everyone else's - and it put many people into a catch-22 that was easily avoidable. There was a nice amount of realism in the end with it being mostly bitter not sweet; reminded me a bit of The Theif Lord in that way. Not my cup of tea, but you may enjoy it.

As always, Steve West is great on the narration.

I would not recommend this book for young women sad it teaches them to give up total control of their lives to pushy men.

The way the protagonist gives up all her personal will power and autonomy to these seven plushy men, and the author just excuses these boys behavior by saying more or less, "it's just how they are" is, frankly, abusive.

The boys don't allow her to read notes passed to her in class and take them from her without even telling her. They expect her to be totally dependant then and answer no personal questions about themselves while demand divulge intimate secrets to reach of them they gossip about her. They lift get clothes and demand she explain hey bruises without thinking about her personal space. This book romanticised sexualized harassment and stalking. They watch her through her windows. They tell her how to wear her hair and yell at her if she for not agree. They follow her to the bathroom and don't let her make ANY other friends. The author can pretend this is chivalry all they want. This book is disturbing. It is the story of a girl who has been abused and controlled all her life and end up with friends who are abusive and controlling. They literally isolate her and tell her what is good for her.

Pretty certain the characters are more than they seem. A fun book, not difficult to follow. Not particularly deep, but sometimes that's exactly what you want in a book. You will not be dissatisfied after reading. Go ahead and get this one.
