Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Overly long
Reviewed: 06-06-22
The author is quite passionate about Dorothy Kilgallen and it becomes a plea for restoring her reputation, getting in the way of the investigation that Kilgallen was in the process of completing concerning the assassination of KFJ. I did find it fascinating and enjoyed it.

Story
Katherine Nichols knew she’d had too many drinks, but they were only going a short distance. “There’s no traffic anyway,” Eve had pointed out. And they'd had such a great night out, the two of them. Even now, driving them home and knowing she shouldn’t, seemed almost mischievous. All part of the fun. Not anymore.

Could not finish it, too disappointing
Reviewed: 09-16-19
From the beginning the story was super predictable, but I continued on, convinced there would come a twist or surprise but alas it was not to be. The characters were cookie cutter in character and lacked development, the conversations were stilted and uninteresting. I do not recommend this book, I found it a waste of my time.

Absolutely engrossing story, each chapter brought a new twist or added to the past twist. There was intrigue, magic, murder and suspense. I enjoyed it far better than I thought I would. The narrator was perfect for for this story.
