About this listen

Soon to be a major television event from Pascal Pictures, starring Tom Holland.

Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, the USA Today and #1 Amazon Charts bestseller Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during one of history’s darkest hours.

Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian teenager - obsessed with music, food, and girls - but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior.

In an attempt to protect him, Pino’s parents force him to enlist as a German soldier - a move they think will keep him out of combat. But after Pino is injured, he is recruited at the tender age of eighteen to become the personal driver for Adolf Hitler’s left hand in Italy, General Hans Leyers, one of the Third Reich’s most mysterious and powerful commanders.

Now, with the opportunity to spy for the Allies inside the German High Command, Pino endures the horrors of the war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, his courage bolstered by his love for Anna and for the life he dreams they will one day share.

Fans of All the Light We Cannot See, The Nightingale, and Unbroken will enjoy this riveting saga of history, suspense, and love.

The initial pace was slow, but I'm glad I stuck with it. this novel quickly picked up and entertained history and fiction to relay pieces of history that have been long forgotten.

I didn't even get through the first for you chapters cuz I didn't like the narrator. It's not in my library think for over 6 months if not more before I actually gave it a go. For people that don't like detail this book is not for you . for individuals like me that appreciate the details this is for you. It's a Wonderful story and I didn't even know until I was more than halfway through it but it was actually based off of a real person's life. I hope that index Pino lella is reunited with his Anna. I actually don't hate general leyers either. especially when it comes to the Nazis in World War II I think that a lot of them got into something they didn't I didn't know they were getting into. somebody like Adolf Hitler as we've learned was an opioid attic and insane I'm sure a lot of people did what they needed to survive. I am by no means saying that any part of World War II or the Holocaust included in that was okay I in fact condemn it. this is a great story about individuals taking their life into their own hands to survive and to also find Freedom during and after World War II. this book has really opened my eyes to the mass casualties committed by the Nazi regime under Hitler's command Beyond the Jews in the concentration camps. How Country turned against her own man and found themselves acting as judge jury and of those who saw it and decided to not be part of it. my heart goes out to Anna and to Dolly 4 at those times in life when they didn't have as much control as they do today so who knows if anyone ever even listen to them. anyways this is a great book if you have the time and patience for it

Can't belive I returned this book. Its brilliance

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - the only negative that kept from giving it 5 stars overall is that this audible version adds subsection numbers in the reading/telling that aren't in the book and it's odd to hear the narrator say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. throughout the audible version.

Excellent Historical Fiction based on True Story
