Story
If Miss Laura Hopkins desired a husband, her beauty, brains, and fortune would make it easy to acquire one. Instead, she prefers to put her charms to another purpose entirely. Using the alias Lady Sterling, she helps young women who have been mistreated or compromised by their employers. Some might see it as theft and blackmail. For Laura, it is a small measure of justice. But while in pursuit of her latest target, she is unexpectedly aided by a gentleman who announces that he is Lord Sterling.

Entertaining Action (When There is Some)
Reviewed: 02-25-22
Perhaps this book should have been a novella? I found that the book spent too much time on the H/H's introspective thoughts: "do or don't I feel this way?" or "will he/she or won't he/she feel this or that?" Paragraphs and paragraphs of what ifs... The rest of the book was solidly entertaining.

"We held hands as children"
Reviewed: 12-12-19
The author writes well. The story, however, was a lot of inner dialogue within the H/H. They must have reflected, recalled and reminissed a half a dozen times in each chapter how they used to hold hands as children. Then they were both baffled as to why society construed it as inappropriate now that they were grown ups. Its been a while since I came across two characters so completely clueless and willfully ignorant about themselves and others. Im suprised I didn't strain my eyes rolling them so hard and so often! Why did it take 40 chapters for the "hero" to realize he was in love and that they were more than just "best of friends since childhood"? How dense do u have to be? Again, the author wrote the story well but she really needs to improve her character development.

More Religious Than Expected

This is definitely Christian Fiction. A lot of Bible verse. I believe this could have been edited down a bit. The characters ramble on about their feelings and it becomes redundant. Yes, we get it. You love each other, you love the liitle girl and you love God. Yes, you're upset about the circumstances. Yes, you're faith and prayer will pull you through. We had to go through this litany several times. I wanted to get on with it and move on to the plot. Faith and prayer is all well and good, but I read fictional to be entertained by a story not for Bible study.

Should be a novella

I liked the mystery part of the plot, but the two main characters were so whiny and insecure. They each had to internally debate and review and mull over each little interaction and then, of course, come up with a stupid and wrongheaded deduction. I would have edited this book by at least half.
I am surprised that I didn't strain my eyes by rolling them so much!

Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

The book was well written. Claire's ultimate secret was silly and Alex was wishy-washy and way too mushy. The story did have just enough charm to keep me listening to the end.

Abrupt ending. Left me Unsatisfied.
Reviewed: 04-06-17
I feel the author could have done much more with the story. I kept predicting plot twists that were never realized. There is never a climactic reconciliation between the main characters or with society. it just plods along with several villainous characters lurking on the side lines, but never used effectively in the story. I kept waiting for a reveal that never happened.
I found the initial premise of twins killing each other hard to accept just because they were infatuated with the same girl. I kept thinking surely the greedy cousin tampered with the guns or caused some serious misunderstanding betwwen them to result in all this misery to so many characters. I was sadly disappointed.
The wrting on whole is fine. If you are looking for an uninspired story with a happy ending, here it is.

Repetition, Introspection and Description
Reviewed: 08-23-16
Not a lot of action.
Each main character spent ages in angst over how their perfect wedding day was ruined but still perfect and even though it was perfect it was still the worst day ever.
Most of the book is spent explaining the main couple's feelings and their descriptions of the various settings, clothing, furniture, flowers, musical instruments, etc. So each sceen had to be told from each characters point of view. And again everything is perfect except it is just not perfect.
The narrator was very good.
I suggest you only read/listen to this novel only if you are a big fan of the Survivors Series and want to read a post script of those previous stories.
