"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

Fantastic story
Reviewed: 05-28-25
The narrator is absolutely fantastic, even though in the beginning the sounds of different characters can be a bit annoying, but this quickly passes and the original voices give charm to the characters. I loved this book with its ups and lies, and even cried a bit, which usually never happens. I was touched and recommended this to my friends as a good listen. Now to the next book comrinui6the story.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

I didn't find this book very engaging or interesting. The narration is good but very slow, and one must put this on 1,5 speed to keep attention to the story. I do not understand the hype around this book, since to me there was little to keep me listening, and an hour before the end i gave up.

Shocking but not surprising

This book is showing extreme resilience and courage of a young woman finally leaving years of abuse by the Amish. I enjoyed listening to this, even if the story is shocking and sad. It lifts up matters that are very difficult and complex, but extremely important to talk about in the society. I am now watching the documentary made of her story, and I hope her story will encourage others to stand up and leave abusive Amish communities.

Confusing and cliched
Reviewed: 08-02-24
The story was all the time jumping from one person to another and I had hard time understanding who was telling their perspective at the time. Maybe this was due to the narrator rather than the book, but not sure. I felt that I also had heard this story before, it was nothing new or enticing to listen. At points I also felt that it was a love story between cliches "a broken alcoholic man" and "a fragile woman" who makes the man to change....I really like the author, and was therefore baffled how this book was so different from others that I have listened. I unfortunately wasn't able to finish the book, and I will not come back to this series.

I got 2/3 through but couldn't finish even if this is a very short story. This story was too cheesy for my taste and a bit too much Usa stereotypical humor/oddities mixed in. If these points don't bother you, then it can be a nice short listen.

Too conservative, based in 50's?
Reviewed: 05-02-24
The murder mystery story could have been a cosy listen, but this book is full of extremely conservative values and hypocrisy. I especially didn't like how it portrayed women as causing their abuse from men or that no equality household is a virtue. Is this book based in the 50's, since it sure feels like it. Southern values or not, I wouldn't recommend for a modern woman to listen.

A funny and entertaining mystery. Not most complex one, but my expectations were definitely exceeded with some twists in the mystery story. A very cousy listen, and I made me want to check other books from the author. Performance was slow so had to listen with 1,45 speed, but this didn't worsen the quality.

The book starts a bit slow, but once it rolls you want to continue. A lot of twists keep you on your toes, some of them are fairly predictable but some not. I thoroughly enjoyed listening this book, but after such a masterful telling, the ending was a bit confusing and dragged slightly too long. Overall, a very good book.
