About this listen

It was the perfect vacation fling. And then a body showed up.

Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. About to lose his ancestral home to family debts, charming aristocrat Tom Calder invites his American guest to join him in drinking his way through the estate’s priceless wine collection. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder.

Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them—except the shadowy figures stalking them through the estate's empty halls and lonely woodlands. On the run for their lives, Amelia and Tom must piece together their shifting memories and a string of baffling clues to expose the crime—while navigating their morning-after awkwardness and the undeniable sparks between them. As their unexpected bond deepens, they begin to wonder if their own love story could be one for the ages—if they manage to survive at all.

Loved this sweet, surprising, and laugh out loud story

Wonderful performances and twisty, turns plot twist rom com. Complete with suspense and grin inducing Jane Austen references. Both narrators have perfect performances as well. I couldn’t stop listening.

The dialogue is witty and entertaining

I enjoyed this story. It easily held my attention. The only complaint that I have is that the ending seemed a bit abrupt to me.

such a surprise

I wasn't sure if I would like this book. But I gave it a listen. I was pleasantly surprised. Funny parts, sad parts, and great suspense. I never saw that ending. I am going to download more from this author. let's hope with the same narrator's.

Boring

Story line is boring. It’s less about a murder mystery which is implied and more about attraction and dimwittedness.

Eh

Pretty slow to get into it. Fairly predictable overall. Middle seemed to be really hitting it's stride, but then ending was quite expected and trying way too hard. Last 30 minutes dragged on forever with every line trying to be more profound in it's life lesson than the last. Surprised this gets such high reviews. Yes it was free, but it was still mediocre in writing and enjoyment.

About 2 hours too long

Lots of potential but really overwrought. If the author had cut about 2/3 of the philosophizing, explaining therapy, and dragging out the final confrontation with the bad guy, it would have been delightful.

Repetitive

Surprisingly dull for a thriller. Both main characters continually repeated the same ideas in different words, over and over. I became extremely bored with the endless discussion of “living”, fearfully or fully.
