Story
After the death of her estranged grandmother, Marisa Marrero finds herself bequeathed a surprising inheritance: a house in the New Orleans French Quarter, left to her with a variety of bizarre conditions attached. Among the surprising consequences of Marisa's acceptance is a friendship with a man called Jack St. Germaine, an alleged alchemist who may or may not be hiding a questionable history, and a series of encounters with Elisabeth Clavier, a vampire known for hunting mortals for sport.

I am pretty familiar with Olivie Blake's writing, from The Atlas Six and Masters of Death to name a few. She has a writing style that is visually intense and thrilling, yet slow-burny. She definitely gives you room for your thoughts and does not explain everything plainly. She does not look down on the reader which I appreciate.
I really, really enjoy Olivie's concepts. She has a great imagination and world-building skill set. You can tell that she is able to live in these worlds that she creates, and knows how they work. The magic system is interesting, as well as her interpretation of preexisting mythological/magical/fairytale creatures.
I wish I could dive again into this world. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer.

Story
My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

not bad however very boring

it felt very fanfic-y, like a mix of Harry Potter and Twilight. A very predictable plot what made it a boring listen.

it was more cringy than the first one

after the first book ended basically in the middle of the plot, i decided to listen to the second installment. I didn't know I could cringe so hard, I struggled to finish it. I'm not planning on giving a try another book in this series.
