Collins' commitment to objective truth gets him in hot water with the left and the right. Where most of us cower or bluster; he listens, informs, reflects, and challenges is to escape our bubbles.

I grew up in Northwest Alabama. Not Sand Mountain but close enough to get it. Rick Bragg's intimate musings are sometimes foreign and sometimes family. Stories of pocket knives and tupperware and blacktops make me laugh and then cry a little.

From my perspective, this book starts strong with a sweeping treatment of the birth of the science of electricity. My interests are more technical, however, and the book later devotes considerable time to the business, policy, politics, and regulation of the industry. Nothing wrong with that; it's just not my primary interest.

The latter treatment of renewable energy and Elon Must was disappointingly brief, however I must admit that chapter of history is still unfolding.

If you are mostly a fan of technology and science, the early parts of this book will frustrate you. The author focuses sharply on the personalities and politics of the early Astronaut corps. Patient readers will eventually be rewarded with some insider details of the science, technology, and grand adventure of the Apollo program.

This a good high-level treatment of the promise of block chain technology. It is a bit light on technical detail, but those would be likely to overwhelm. Also it seems a bit overly optimistic in the current political environment.

More than the typical history of tech, This book delves deeply into the family history of Gordon Moore. While very thorough, the bents of the plural authors come through as a bit uneven. Technology buffs must be patient as the text often suddenly shifts from technology minutiae to family drama to history writ large. But it's worth the wait.

here's where the optional review that has to be at least 20words goes I guess. The boor was great but Audible has a real UI problem with this review submittal process.
