Story
In defense of her honor, innocent Leda Etoile has burned all her bridges and taken refuge in her tiny attic room in a shabby boarding house in London. But her last safe haven is invaded when she wakes to find a man hidden in the dark - a man with golden hair and the face of a fallen angel, who moves in the night like a shadow. Will he be her savior, or her ruin? Samuel Gerard draws her inexorably into the richest circles of aristocratic England. But even as Leda falls in love with a man she can never have, she must keep his secrets.

In print and in Audio one of the most romantic books ever
Reviewed: 06-24-24
I love the perfectly imperfect main characters. I read this book in print as a young college student and have listened to the audio version several times. Laura Kindale creates characters you don't forget even decades later. :)

Story
Baron Valdemar and his people have found a temporary haven, but it cannot hold all of them, or for long. Trouble could follow on their heels at any moment, and there are too many people for Crescent Lake to support. Those who are willing to make a further trek by barge on into the West will follow him into a wilderness depopulated by war and scarred by the terrible magics of a thousand years ago and the Mage Wars. But the wilderness is not as "empty" as it seems. There are potential friends and rapacious foes.

Story
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Story
My name is Wilhemina Jensen. I am one of the few people who survived when aliens first made contact. I managed to hide for more than a year before they found me. I ended up living in a tent city set up in a school yard that felt like a human zoo for months when one of the orcs pulled me out of the food line. He and his friends fed me the first real meal I’d had in ages before sending me back to my tent. I wasn’t trying to attract attention, but the next thing I know, I’m getting special treatment. When I asked why, I didn’t like the vague answer I got.

Not exactly sure when the term "post apocalyptic romance" was coined but you've found it. I like the grittier mix here and the take on aliens. I started with Book 2 and went back to read book 1- you can start with either if you want. I liked both. This series is definitely best for adults.

Story
Hordes of tall, grey aliens with tusks arrived in spaceships the size of cities. Before the news channels went dark, humans named the creatures orcs. The human armies fought and failed. War crimes were committed on both sides. Eventually, when food supplies failed, society collapsed and the government was overthrown. Humans turned on each other. Nowhere was safe. The orcs rounded up the survivors and locked them away in refugee camps. In the fullness of time, some women had little grey babies.

more sci-Fi less formula
Reviewed: 04-19-21
Ah- a more "realistic" version of post apocalyptic romance if those words can go together? The world building is well done and the sci fi felt solid. I read book 2 then book 1- and the two a very different plots - completely fine to read these two out of order. Definitely will be looking for the continuation of this series.

Story
Repeated over and over by those answering the call, it would empty bars or a base or a city of Tasmanians, because no member of the elite unit would desert a brother in trouble, reinforcing their unofficial motto, Et Anima Una, Of One Mind. Jolie is the only female in the elite all male Tasmanian special forces group and loving every crazy minute of it; well, except for being made a squad leader. A duty no Tasmanian would want since it means having to make life and death decisions that impact their brothers' lives.

a different kind of "avengers"
Reviewed: 04-09-21
I am not a typical military fiction fan, but there is something so compelling about the bone deep loyalty of the Tasmanians. It's also so refreshing that we have multiple "superheros" and the focus is on how they think, act, solve problems and work as a team.
