Story
An AI calling itself Schema has assimilated Earth into its System. As a consequence, everyone gained access to status screens, power-ups, and skills. This AI turned these concepts from fiction to fact. It's easy to become intoxicated with leveling up and becoming stronger. To some, it's too good to be true, like living out a dream. For Daniel, however, it's closer to a nightmare.

Worth a credit (revised)

When I firstr started listening, I was unimpressed, The story ttook a while to get moving, mostly because it was one very young guy by himsef. And his personality is pretty believable; that is to say - a young, somewhat one-dimensional personality. So that led me to believe the narrator was not that great. But as the book went along, I realized that was completely untrue. The narrator did a fine job throughout, and it just got better and better. As far as the story goes, it started off a bit weak, but then got better chapter upon chapter. It seems like a 'first book' for an author. But it ended up being pretty good in the end. I will be continuing the series if the next book comes to Audiboe. This book is something different. And it's worth a credit.

Story
Noah didn’t expect much from entering the virtual reality world of Asgard’s Fall. Even the danger of the experimental full immersion technology didn’t put him off. It beat living in a nursing home, and it was supposed to let him feel young again...at least until modern medicine and his body gave out. But there was something wrong with Asgard’s Fall. Most of the time, the “gods” running the game didn’t act like AIs were supposed to. Some of the players took things too seriously, like they knew something about the game that Noah didn’t.

Bait and switch - I couldn't finish it
Reviewed: 07-24-23
Pavi Proczko does a fantastic job narrating, as always. He was the brightest spot in this experience.
That said, there's LitRPG, Gamelit, Isekai, Wuxia, and whatever this is. If you really love LitRPG, plan on being, at best, a bit disappointed. I don't want to spoil the story for those who might enjoy it. But suffice to say it's a fantasy story with an interestiong-enough storyline. But it's not really LitRPG despite what the preview and even the first few hours of the book might lead you to believe.
The other reason I couldn't finish this book is the directly insulting language twoard Jesus, the central figure of Christianity, and ultimately toward the God of Abraham. It doesn't advance your story in any way. And it makes it impossible for me to continue with this series. Just my two cents, but I would avoid trashing peoples' religion. It's quite possible to do in a work of fiction like this.
If you have antipathy toward Christianity, Islam, or Judaism or you just don't care about them one way or another, then you might enjoy this story. It is imaginatiove and fairly well-written. But if you are truly a person of any of those three faiths, then I doubt you're going to be a big fan of this book.

Constant jarring, extreme vulgarity
Reviewed: 07-14-23
If someone came to my home and spoke to me with the language regularly used throughout this book, I would throw them out. So why would I pay to listen to it?
The more forgiveable challenges with this book are:
1.) The author, a professional writer, doesn't know the difference between 'I' and 'Me.' So let me help him out.
"Me and Bob went to the store.' Really? Take bob out of the picture, and it's 'Me went to the store.
2.) The author, a professional writer doesn't know that 'phenoena' is the plural of 'phenomenon.'
3.) If you don't know how to properliy use 'comprise' in a sentence, then just don't use the word.
The level of mastery over written English is somewhere in the middle-school range. But then again, given the constant wish-fulfillment going on here and the ridiculous views on relationships with women, that probabliy fits.

This book wasn't bad. But it wasn't good, either. It just felt like filler. There was no arc to speak of. Some stuff just happened. The MC found some stuff to get stronger, fought a guy who was impossible to beat due to him having cheat items. And then some more stuff happened and then it just kind of ended. I just saved yuou 20ish hours and a credit. BUT the rest of the series was really good, so I'll continue.

The opening sequence of the firset book was like watching a movie in my mind. The first book was great. The second was kind of weird but good. The third was ...not reallyi my speed, but it was well-written. This book? It's basically the author trying to explain everything. I just kept asking myself 'what was the point of the last hour?' Books are supposed to paint a picture, not go into boring technical details. Also - if I wanted to join a new-age religion, I'd go.. join a new-age religion. And, finally - how did anybody ever get born in this city since pretty much everybody is gay? Just.. why? I get that it's cool to be woke right now. And I'm not hating on gay people. But it's just so obvious that virtue signalling was a major motiviation for the author in this book. Here's hoping the next one will be better. I'll give it a try.. but wow, this one was bad.

The broken use of tense in this book is so distracting that I couldn't get into the story at all. The story is mostly written in first-person present tense. Sometimes on interludes it switches to third person past tense. I can't stand present tense in a work of fiction. But it's even worse in this book because the author will switch tense in the middle of sentences!
I'm pretty forgiving with LitRPG books because many of the authors aren't professional writers, but they are good story-tellers. So I'm willing to suspend criticality and just lose myself in the story. But the lack of a basic command of the English grammar makes that impossible in this case.

This series has more twists and turns than the Nurburgring race course. Fantastic story. Characters I love, characters I love to hate, great pacing, and a wonderful narration. This has quickly become one of my favorite series. The only problem is the depression of hearing 'Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program' and knowing I have to wait a month for the release of the next book on Audible.
Don't even think. Just buy the series.

This book had me from the very first sentence. This is the first book I've read/listened-to by this author. He did a great job of writing complex-but-likeable characters. That is saying a lot from my perspective. Why? Because too often, in my opinion, when an author try to write characters with depth, they end up making them all broken and without any moral character. Instead, the characters in this book are imperfect. But some of them try to do better when they realize it. Also, there's no politics shoved down the reader's throat. There are people in this book of various viewpoints and the author doesn't use a heavy hand or judge from a narrative point of view.
But the best things in this book are the extremely well fleshed out aliens and the constant mysteries that just keep on keeping on without getting tedious. I love this book. This is one of my favorite Science Fiction series ever at this time. And that's saying something . I've read just about everything from Card, Cherryh, Hamilton, and many others. And if he keeps going in this direction this author can join them as one of the greats.

Good story, challenging narration
Reviewed: 02-05-22
This was a pretty good LitRPG story. It wasn't fantastic, but it was definitely interesting and worth the credit. Where it fell down a bit for me was in the narration. The narrator has a British accent and for some reason speaks slowly and over-enunciates. This is almost as distracting to me as a white person doing a Nigerian accent. I'll probably continue the series, though!
