Story
Trying to put past hurts behind you is hard when your ex is a fool, but buoyed by child support and alimony, Jo Walker is moving forward with her life, pursuing a career, raising her little girl, and trying to live in peace. She believes she has all the bases covered in her world. But what about her heart? Rap legend Everett "Big South" McClain is divorced, too, knows all about failed relationships, and has relegated his love life to casual connections rather than pursuing something real. Story
Generations of Montrose women—Augusta, Victoria, Willow—have lived together in their quaint two-story bungalow in California for years. They keep to themselves, never venture far from home, and their collection of tinctures and spells is an unspoken bond between them. But when seventeen-year-old Nickie Montrose brings home a boy for the first time, their quiet lives are thrown into disarray. For the other women have been withholding a secret from Nickie that will end her relationship before it’s even begun: the decades-old family curse that any person they fall in love with dies.

This was so good I had to keep listening I didn’t want to even put it down after I had to go to work. This was a great interpretation to hoodoo and what the different ways it could affect a family. I want to read more from this author.

Pretty good story line

This story has a good plot and interesting storyline but I would have liked to have more chapters and detail from this book. I was getting all into it but it was short and sweet to the point. I can say that I will want to read more from this author in the future.

Super glad I got the audio book
Reviewed: 01-09-23
This story line was wonderful and I am glad I got the audio book instead of reading it on my own because I don't speak the language well and would have been confused as to who was who. In the beginning the story seem to be going a different direction then it ended up heading but once it all tied together it was such an amazing story. I am not sure how true the whole supernatural world is but I am sure I love the story lines behind them.

Good story line
Reviewed: 01-09-23
This was a good story line and the performance was relatable. I like how the charters really tied into something that many have experienced in the past. The setting was great and there was sad, happy and even moments that made me cry. This was entertaining and a great read. I believe that a lot of women are battling some type of self sabotage due to things that have happened in their families or past relationships. Its ok to love after hurt but first you must heal.

Single Chapter
Reviewed: 01-09-23
This was a single chapter and that was the most disappointing reaction that I have. The author Zane is one of my favorites but I wish this was a longer story. The person who was reading the chapter was very good. She wasn't just reading the chapter but made you feel engaged in the story. Next time I would like a longer story but I will pay attention to what I am buying.

This was a great read and showed what black people have to go through when in school with mostly white children. Take some time to read this story or listen to the audiobook. The person reading this story was awesome.
