Story
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Vivid characters
Reviewed: 08-25-24
I chose to read this book because my mother was an air evac nurse in Vietnam. She never spoke of her time there but I saw my mother’s story unfold in many of the chapters as I read. Because of this, I found myself wanting to pray for Frankie, yelling “No!” when she threw herself into yet another way to stuff and numb the pain, and missing her when the book was over.

The way the story was woven together, 60 years apart, was very clever. The ending was quite satisfying too. Well worth the investment.

Clean fiction is a dying art so when I found this story I was thrilled. Just as delightful as one of Jane Austin’s novels, the girl in the picture takes you on a journey with Michael and Elizabeth, a doting older brother and little sister duo who overcome the odds and find success as Irish Catholic Immigrants to Australia.
The mystery that ensues keeps you wanting more. I loved the ending!
Beautifully recorded as well.

Beautifully written
Reviewed: 12-27-23
This story is reminiscent of The Book Thief because of its unusual narrator and the historical setting.
A beautifully written story that spans several decades with a foundation built on the atrocities of the holocaust and the shared suffering of three children and one particular evil man.
In the end forgiveness, love, and justice prevail because the truth was told.

I’m thankful for Beth Moore’s honesty and transparency. Many biographies are self-indulgent but Beth’s storytelling was a balance of her life as she remembers it with an undertone of humility.
The overall message is God’s grace is sufficient even when man fails miserably and God’s love covers a multitude of sins, enabling us to live and thrive in a fallen world.
Also, her love story with Kieth is inspiring! For better or for worse, in sickness and in health… such an encouragement for couples who live with any kind of illness.

The Bridge of Clay is an artistic masterpiece of story. The pace is slow and methodical, like the metronome, but the characters, especially Clay, are well developed and intriguing.
It is a story about a family who loved and suffered deep loss. Yet, really, it is a story about the power of story. It was story that bonded this family together and story that reunited them in love.

Story
A mysterious amulet leads Fallon to everything she’s ever wanted...and possibly her death. After a lifetime with no knowledge of her parents, troubled 17-year-old Fallon Webb receives a necklace once belonging to her mother. The amulet leads her on a life-changing journey through a portal to a foreign land where she encounters unusual creatures, shape-shifters, and something she’s always longed for - family. In Ariboslia, Fallon learns her mother is alive. Vampire-like creatures have her, and many others, captive. Most distressing is the prophecy that devastated her family.

The performance is spectacular! Amanda Ovington brings each character to life. Even though I read the print version last year I felt like I was experiencing the story for the first time.
The Christian message is clear throughout with the story of redemption at the heart of this fantasy adventure. It’s like Lord of the Rings meets Twilight only the line between good and evil is clear. Also, unconditional and sacrificial love is demonstrated throughout the story.
Thank you J. F. Rogers for releasing Astray Audiobook out into the world for all of us to enjoy.
