Story
Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body.

4.5: Solid story with an excellent narrator
Reviewed: 05-22-23
The only thing that drove me crazy was the selective honesty that the main character maintained through the whole book. However, the story was interesting, with good turns and I finished this in two days. Would definitely recommend it if you're a fan of spooky / creepy stories.

Love Sager, but this is a miss of a story

Returned it after trying for two hours. The story is implausible. If a girl is so scared / traumatized by her bff's murder, why would she put herself in ridiculous danger? It just doesn't add up and is so slow.

Story
Jacob Reese enjoys the quiet life, running a coffee shop and renting out his cottage in The Hollows, Vermont. But the calm is shattered when a woman who looks eerily similar to his ex-girlfriend Laura turns up to stay in the cottage, and leaves a mysterious note in the guest book. Now Jacob’s seeing Laura everywhere - a glimpse of her face across the street, her music box left outside his house, a gift he gave her years before hanging from the trees. But it can’t be Laura. Because Laura’s dead.

the narrator did a fine job, though it took a while to get used to the vocal changes of the characters. the story was somewhat lackluster and the ending was just okay.
