Great romance great narrator

Loved this narrator, really powerful emotional scenes but also didn’t sound too young and YA-esque. Great work!

Story
It’s not just a box: it’s an ancient weapon capable of destroying entire cities. Deep within the badlands, warped and twisted by tainted magic and weirdlings, the box holds secret wisdom lost in the Cataclysm. The archaeologists who discovered it are selling it to the highest bidder. If it falls into the wrong hands, their fragile civilization’s uneasy peace will be shattered once and for all. John and his fellow adventurers are hired to steal this ancient artifact so it can be safely destroyed. Stealing it is one thing; surviving it is another.

The mysteries of the cataclysm

Nuttalls world is fascinating and has a very unique aesthetic. The first book didn’t really explore the mysteries of the cataclysm much but had a much more one off adventure vibe. The second book definitely does a better job of really exploring the mysteries of the world.
The performance is excellent and the narrator does an excellent job of portraying the feeling and uniqueness of each character.

Story
Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he toils willingly, trusting that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

I love this book and read it years ago but wow this cast really brings it to life! The narrator is particularly compelling and his anguish after the passage was palpable. I love the original audiobooks but this narrator is more age appropriate to Darrow and the women in this add so much depth. Excited to listen to part 2!
