Publisher's summary

For humans and vampires, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always–always–guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown…and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home.

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, a heart-wrenching romance full of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue.

Loved, loved, loved

I told myself I would read more fantasy this year and this was just the book to get me started. I was hooked from the get and could not hit pause. This book hit on every level and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

This is a great listen.

I feel like if Hunger Games and Blade did a mash up this would be it.

Great book but I need more world building

I fell in love with the characters right away. I loved her take on vampires, different from the lore I am used to but still familiar in the typical ways. I love the political aspects and the gods and goddesses. I would have loved a richer world building but I’m ready for the rest of the series to be out!

New Fan

This is my first book from Broadbent and I can assure you it won't be my last. I'm not even usually a fan of fantasy books, but this has awakened a new interest in me for them and I'm excited to not only read more from this author but from others. The writing is so well done, and the story was absolutely enthralling, I love all the main characters, all were complex and multi dimensional, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for them all. I didn't really get the choice our heroine made towards the end but it had to be done for plot, so I'm willing to let it slide. The love story unfolding is one that I can tell will be one to remember and I'm excited to see what the future holds for our two heroes. I was even a little sad to see Vincent go so fast, he just from this book alone has enough substance to be a ML in his own series and I wish we could have gotten to know more about him, and maybe we do in book 2. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I will say I did have to switch over to reading half way through as I felt the narrator's tone was a little too unserious for the feeling that the book was clearly going for. There was no real convection behind the words and it really didn't give me the vibe that I was actually listening to the character speaking but just someone reading words. I did find her vocal characteristics to be entertaining though, so while I was on the fence about listening to part two because of the things I mentioned I know that even if I don't think the voice fits the character or the story that well, it won't be dull or unentertaining either way. I'm trying to hold out on reading the second book to give the narrator a second chance but the story is so good I want answers to all my questions now, I don't think I can wait until Oct. Fantastic read!

Surprising

Wasn’t sure if I was going to like this but it’s worth the hype. I’m debating now if I want to read the new book or wait for the audio version. Narration was great as always

Engaging & Fast-Paced

There is a lot going on, enemies to allies to lovers, fights to the death, and political intrigue. It also had some twists I didn't see coming, which was a nice surprise! I can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Decent and worth the listen

It was intriguing enough to want to purchase book two of the series. Got a little angsty at times, but not overly dramatic. Narrator has a perfect voice for the female MC portion.
