Difficult content but still a good story
Reviewed: 02-13-23
There’s a good story here, but I found it difficult to listen to the sex scenes between a 14 yr old girl and 24 yr old man. I powered through and in the end was glad I did because it’s a good story. The narrator is outstanding.

An interesting take on parallel universes set in present day. One doesn’t have to be an atomic physicist to enjoy the story. The narrator does a great job too.

Story
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Modern day “It’s a Wonderful Life”
Reviewed: 06-20-22
Sort of a modern day version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” where the main character attempts suicide and gets to experience many different ways that she could have lived her life, as well as what happens in her current life if she didn’t exist. Lots of feel good moments and philosophical take aways on life and living. I love the narrator Carrie Mulligan- she’s amazing as always.

It's August 1984, and paperboy Christopher Stewart has gone missing. Hours later, 12-year-old Sammy Cox hurries home from his own paper route, red-faced and out of breath, hiding a terrible secret. Crystal, Sammy's 17-year-old sister, is worried by the disappearance but she also sees an opportunity: the Stewart case has echoes of an earlier unsolved disappearance of another boy, one town over. Crystal senses the makings of an award-winning essay, one that could win her a scholarship - and a ticket out of their small Iowa town.

About an hour into the book I almost returned it but held off because other reviewers said to hang in there. The narrator was annoying and almost ruined the book but I’m glad that I kept going because it turned out to be a sweet story with serious themes that shouldn’t be ignored by society—very Fredrik Backman!

A sad and uninteresting follow up to Lonesome Dove
Reviewed: 05-12-19
This book is all hardship, death and destruction without the humor from the first book Lonesome Dove. The villain and his mother are so poorly written that I found myself fast forwarding just so I wouldn’t have to listen to the uninteresting and unnecessary dialog.
