Story
The best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia focuses on "minor geniuses" and idiosyncratic behavior to illuminate the ways all of us organize experience in this "delightful" (Bloomberg News) collection of writings from The New Yorker. What is the difference between choking and panicking? Why are there dozens of varieties of mustard-but only one variety of ketchup? What do football players teach us about how to hire teachers? What does hair dye tell us about the history of the 20th century?

Wish I could get my money back

This book covers some of my main areas of interest, so I was very surprised that I couldn't get into listening to it. I've started it several times, but can't stay engaged. I listen to many audio books each month and usually complete them and listen to the more entertaining ones again, but this one just didn't pull me in. Perhaps it is the writer's elaborate style. If you are similar to me and like fact filled, straight forward historical fiction with an intriguing plot, you might want to look elsewhere.

Not worth two credits
Reviewed: 05-16-08
Although the narrator does a great job with this book, I would not spend two credits on this book. It reads like a children's book with a few rated R scenes thrown in for reasons that seem to have little to do with the overall progress of the story.
Suggestions for something to read about Ancient Rome that is better literature: Pompeii by Robert Harris or either of the Claudius books by Robert Graves.

Each dialogue is introduced in English. If you will be able to understand the conversation that follows, you won't need the English language intro. If you need it, you won't be able to decipher the Italian language dialogue. A booklet with the sentences translated would make this possibly useful.

I noticed a definite reduction in appetite from the first listen. I was skeptical, but figured for the low price, what the heck. The downside: time consuming to keep up with the daily relaxation exercises, but it beats the alternative: overeating.
