I waited two years for this?
Reviewed: 02-05-24
This let down was on the scale of the ending of game of thrones. I felt the crossovers were forced and the interactions seemed so shallow. In many other SJM books I adore many of the supporting characters, but so many of these were just annoying. They made everything worse that they touched. I also feel that the modern world setting just made this feel cheesy and immature. Bryce especially seems just immature and reckless. I wanted her to grow and develop but she’s still lacking. It all just seemed too easy. No big twists and every major plothole was attributed to Danika.

Story
Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father's dive bar... in Washington. Piper hasn't even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won't last a week outside of Beverly Hills. How bad could it really be?

Spicy but cringeworthy
Reviewed: 06-08-22
The storyline was predictable but delightfully spicy. The dialogue between the MC and the performance of the dialogue was so cringeworthy though. Can we just retire “baby” as a term of endearment? Gross.

Could not finish
Reviewed: 11-16-21
This book has such promise.. I could not finish it. I found the characters lacked depth. I could not invest in them or care because they just seemed off. Very little development. Maybe I heard this narrator and unfairly wanted a SJM plot, and I had unfair expectations… I still couldn’t finish it, unfair or not.

Eh it was OK
Reviewed: 08-18-21
The MC in this book is only moderately likable. She has very few redeeming qualities. She seems naive and blows everything out of proportion. Like 90% of this plot would be irrelevant if the love interested actually communicated. The narrator was very enjoyable though. I liked the modern Greek vibes of the story.

I should have savored this more...

I should have savored this book more, but I have been dying to listen since I finished Secondborn. Bartol has a way of drawing my into her characters and making me so invested in their lives. This book was no different. The cliff hanger was pretty intense. I thought my favorite male character was going to sacrifice himself in the last excerpt. If he did, I might have stopped listening to this series. I will also be irate if she doesn’t end up with him in the end. Overall, great second book to the series!

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
