One Hell of a War Audiobook By Dean Dominique, James Hayes cover art

The story was gripping and informative on the life of the infantry officer in the war. However, the AI narration was terrible, with simple mistakes of pronunciation and foreign languages. I think it would have been better to have read the physical copy of this book, rather than sit through the reading by a machine. No soul and no color in that flat voice.

This story is well constructed and fast paced, and is even better than the early novels. Our dynamic duo once again save the world, or select portions of it all the while tracking down a mysterious world war 2 shipment. The reader will be caught up in the twists and turns of the plot, but will feel well justified in reading this book.

A very well written account, that was used in the Band of Brothers series, it is a very down to earth view of the war, the paratroops and the army during World War 2. Insightful and at times uncomfortably truthful about men in combat and how they face their fears and view life and death. A highly readable book and worthy of inclusion in your World War 2 collections.

Excellent book. Super research and a riveting story about the women who served in the United States Army Nurses Corps. A forgotten story of dedication and bravery that needs to be remembered and celebrated. Highly recommended. Give this to your daughters and granddaughters and tell them these women blazed the trails for equality and independence that they take for granted, with their sweat, tears and blood.

Great detail, combined with straight forward brevity makes this a superior read for those interested in how the maturity of a combat officer occurs. The author makes no outlandish claims, nor inflates his own accomplishments. You get a simple and invaluable look at what attrition and fate can do to units and their leaders. Highly recommended.

Take the time to read or reread this World War 2 classic. It is gripping in action and marked touching in its telling of the strain and loneliness of command. The narrator does an exceptional job in expressing the fast changing action. Highly recommended.

A wonderfully engaging and page turning biography, which fleshes out a well known but little understood American General and President. With well researched commentary Chernow brings Grant to life with look into his long battle with alcoholism and misplaced loyalty in those he conceived as friends. Grant’s flaws as well as his strengths are showcased in this work, providing new insights into a complex man and a vexing record of business errors and political missteps. But the strength lays in the ability of the author to show how Grant was able to fall, rise. And fall again, finally to triumph in the end. His family stories and military exploits are well covered, but also his relationships with his parents, his wife and the many officers and politicians of his era. A recommended purchase and delightful read.
