Story
Every Winter, the human population hibernates. Your name is Charlie Worthing, and it's your first season with the Winter Consuls, the committed but mildly unhinged group of misfits who are responsible for ensuring the hibernatory safe passage of the sleeping masses. You are investigating an outbreak of viral dreams which you dismiss as nonsense; nothing more than a quirky artifact borne of the sleeping mind. When the dreams start to kill people, it's unsettling. When you get the dreams, too, it's weird. When they start to come true, you begin to doubt your sanity.

Living and slaving in Fill City One, you get used to the smell. We call it the Everpresent Stink. But every once in a while, on a spring day with a breeze, it clears away enough to remind us that there is something more out there. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

Amazing full cast sci-fi fun
Reviewed: 08-06-18
Listening to this book was so entertaining. I love the full cast of characters, it's so easy to keep track of who's talking with this format. A large hand is discovered in South Dakota, which ends up being part of a larger robot which is assembled piece by piece, through some heroic efforts. But where did it come from, and what can it do? I actually gasped at some points during the book as the narrators were such fabulous actors. Set in the present day, it made me think about how we as a society would react. Downloaded the second in the series as soon as I finished.

Another great Dept. Q novel. It took a little bit to get into this one but it was a fascinating story with a twist at the end. Complex mystery. You really want the bad guy to get what's coming, may be triggering to anyone who's experienced rape or abortion. Good character growth for the series.

This will make you feel like you're going crazy!
Reviewed: 10-10-16
Would you try another book from Maria Semple and/or Kathleen Wilhoite?
I loved Where'd you go Bernadette, and I feel that this has great potential, but it wanders around and then overall wraps up quite sharply. There are so many asides here that its hard to find the main thread of the plot. I preferred some of the asides, and overall think that Eleanor is someone I would dislike in real life. Her mental wanderings drove me crazy!
What about Kathleen Wilhoite’s performance did you like?
She keeps the voices of the main characters distinct, which I think would be tricky, and she keep the story moving along quickly.
Could you see Today Will Be Different being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No way.
Any additional comments?
The first minute of the audiobook says that it contains a mac and PC compatible pdf file of drawings. Audible does not give you that file, and technical support did not believe me. I was very annoyed by this.

Grandpa reads a thriller
Reviewed: 02-04-15
Would you try another book from Robert Gandt and/or Thomas Block?
Yes on Robert Gandt and no to Thomas Block. It was a good thing this was a thriller because it kept me listening despite the terrible narration. Listen to the audio sample first. I wish I'd read it instead.
If you’ve listened to books by Robert Gandt before, how does this one compare?
This was my first.
How could the performance have been better?
His female voices are awful, and since the president is a woman he has to do that frequently. He had other characters that he basically voiced as grumble grumble grumble, so I'd have to go back to understand.
Did The President's Pilot inspire you to do anything?
Never run for president!

Story
One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells Temperance Brennan she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab. Something about the crime scene is familiar to Tempe: the stashing of the body parts; the meticulous dismemberment. As a pattern continues to emerge, Tempe calls upon all her forensic skills, including bone, tooth/dental, and bite mark analysis and x-ray microflourescence to convince the police that the cases are related and to try to stop the killer before he strikes again.

Reviewed: 10-01-14
Would you listen to Deja Dead again? Why?
I don't listen to mysteries twice
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
This was well edited to really keep the tension going. Several times it gave me the heeby jeebies!
Which character – as performed by Amy Irving – was your favorite?
Tempy, I like her determination.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The climax was quite thrilling and scary.
Any additional comments?
The unabridged had many bad reviews, so I decided to give this version a chance. The narrator did a great job, handled all the french words with ease. Pleasant voice and good with multiple characters. I really felt like this was a tight, thrilling mystery. Not for the squeamish as some of the autopsy details are gorey.
