About this listen

For years, guitarist Quinn Porter has been on the road, chasing gig after gig, largely absent to his twice-ex-wife Belle and their odd, Guinness records-obsessed son. When the boy dies suddenly, Quinn seeks forgiveness for his paternal shortcomings by completing the requirements for one of his son's unfinished Boy Scout badges. For seven Saturdays Quinn does yardwork for Ona Vitkus, the spry 104-year-old Lithuanian immigrant the boy had visited weekly. Quinn soon discovers that the boy had talked Ona into gunning for the world record for oldest licensed driver. Despite himself, Quinn picks up where the boy left off, forging a friendship with Ona that allows him to know the son he never understood.

I was so touched by this story of ordinary people made extra ordinary by letting love into their lives. I loved the narration, the story, everything about this heartfelt book.

I really enjoyed this story. It is very well written. The characters are all so well developed. Everything ties together in the end. The narrator did an excellent performance. He nailed all the characters with the slightest change in voice. At first, he sounds flat. I was thinking how am I going to get through this. Soon, I realized why the monotone. It added to the story's main character. I think this book is better listened to than read.

If you don't like low key, character driven novels then this isn't the book for you. They are among my favorite and I have nothing to say that would be construed as constructive criticism of the story or the authors writing style. It is a FABULOUS novel. Loved the characters and the way the author subtlety moved the narrative along. One of the best books I've listened to ....a list of nearly 200.

Loved...loved...loved This Book

Not my usual genre or story type but give it a chance and it reels you in. It is a slow well crafted story. I like that they don't label the boy which we are too quick to do these days. His life unfolds and is shown to us through his short relationship with a 104 year old woman. His father who struggles to relate or bond to his son finds love and acceptance through this woman of his son, and all are enriched by the boy even in his absence. Touching in subtle way.

Surprisingly Great Listen

The story was engaging, the characters were captivating, and the performance was wonderful. I’ve already told several people about it. I smiled, I cried, I cared.

Loved everything about this!

I enjoyed this book, the story/plot of the book was really nice, but for a lot of sections of this book the topics that they are discussing gets dragged on way longer than it should. Overall pretty good book
