Story
Emma Gatewood told her family she was going on a walk and left her small Ohio hometown with a change of clothes and less than $200. The next anybody heard from her, this genteel, farm-reared, 67-year-old great-grandmother had walked 800 miles along the 2,050-mile Appalachian Trail. And in September 1955, atop Maine's Mount Katahdin, she sang the first verse of "America, the Beautiful" and proclaimed, "I said I'll do it, and I've done it."

My Ohio Connection to Grandma Gatewood!
Reviewed: 11-26-24
This is a great book. I’ve been interested in Grandma Gatewood since my trips to Hocking Hills State Park 4 times each year. (One for every season in a year.). She fascinates me with her strength, her perseverance, and her positive vibe! More people should check her out!

This book combined baseball and stats/economics. I was in heaven. My only complaint was that it was a little too long. By the last chapter or 2 I felt as if he was beating a dead horse. I do recommend the book to other geeks who love baseball.

Story
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Reviewed: 07-07-23
What a pleasure to hear from Prince Harry to explain his side of what the media has been saying. In stead of viewing Harry as the troublemaker or the royal that wouldn’t grow up; we see his sensitivity and his love for so many. I find this book refreshing.

Story
We long for a good life, a beautiful life, a kind life. But clearly that’s not the world we live in. How did we lose goodness, kindness, and beauty? And more important, how do we get them back into our lives? These are the two questions crying out in our streets, homes, churches, and from deep within our souls. Pastor and author Rich Villodas is convinced that only Jesus offers a way of being human that is both strong and tender enough to tear down the walls of hostility we experience daily.

It was quite common throughout the reading of this book for passages to pop into my head reminding me that I was striving to become good, beautiful, and kind. One such instance was when I drove past a homeless person stationed by a highway entrance. I could her Rich telling me that even if I didn’t have money I needed to be attentive; recognizing the other’s humanity.

Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

I was aware that race was and still is an issue in sports. I’ve been aware of that since childhood, 50 years ago. What surprises me is how little it has improved. Feinstein’s many interviews provide a perspective beyond just the data. That’s what makes this book so good.
