just the escapism and intricate sequences we need

Excellent book, great narrator. I've read every book on the series and listened to this over 10 years ago. I have over 500 titles and in the action vigilante spycraft thriller genre, this holds up against the best of the craft. the grey man series is much funnier (in dark humor and dry remarks) and takes itself less serious than the Rapp's Harvaths and Orphan X characters of the others.
The premise for the story is very creative and the story telling by Greaney and the awesome performance of Snyder enhances the text. How he had a prequel that explored courts past was very slick.
the violence in Mexico wasn't as well known in 2011 and not many authors were exploring it in the fiction realm, to paint a vivid and gritty story that spans the amazon and up to the border was all ahead of its time. there mustve been alot of research about the narcos and Mexican p9litics and culture.
bottom line: If you want perfect realism, read old Clancy or griffin. better yet, there are dozens of true stories if you'd like. but if you want an imaginative, fun, and violent look into what makes court tick and how he takes on a cartel, spend the 10 hrs.
sidenote: this story sent me down a rabbit hole with non fiction related to narco terrorism, CIA machinations and the codependent relationship between the US and our southern neighbors. we'll worth it.

outstanding. on a different level.

Carr is the master at weaving in truth and real life intrigue with fiction. The clues and Easter eggs he leaves only add to the scope of the Reece universe.
Go back and read the rest if you haven't already. Although it could be serviceable by itself, to truly appreciate the breadth and depth of the characters, amount of detail for locations and equipment.
Clancy and Thor etc were at the top of the foodchain. No longer. Carr has it all.

John Plaster’s riveting account of his covert activities as a member of a special operations team during the Vietnam War is “a true insider’s account...this eye-opening report will leave readers feeling as if they’ve been given a hot scoop on a highly classified project” (Publishers Weekly). Code-named the Studies and Observations Group, SOG was the most secret elite US military unit to serve in the Vietnam War - so secret that its very existence was denied by the government.

Amazing stories of hairy missions and brave men. These are the men who paved the way for modern sof units like Delta. In fact, many of the founding members of Delta were Recon men in SOG. without their contributions US sof capabilities would have been 15years behind where they were when sof began to become needed and wanted by a reluctant DOD. Also, it shows what could've been with the SOG/SOF model of by, with, and through Using small, agile teams combined with indig soldiers, instead of the sprawl and scope of the Vietnamese buildup.
Ifyou like this, find books by John Meyer who was also a One-Zero who ran Recon with SOG across the fence in laos and Cambodia.

Story
Most people think of snipers as shooters perched in urban hides, dealing out death unseen from a considerable distance. But this description barely scratches the surface. Special operations snipers are men with stacked skill sets who have the ability to turn the tide of battles, even when they aren't pulling the trigger. Snipers have played an outsized role in the War on Terror that has earned them the Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, and countless other honors.

He put together a lot of great info that hadn't been in print before. this isn't the typical warmed over stories that are in allot of books that purport to have sniper stories. Actually has more info on delta and six along with the amazing capabilities of the 75th rangers that Noone knows of outside of the SOF community. connects dots that are out in other books makes this very satisfying
