For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Story
It all begins when the Time Police hold their first Children's Christmas Party. Their most dangerous mission yet. No good deed ever goes unpunished. Lt Grint succumbs to his softer side and soon lives to regret it. The combination of bubble universes, candy floss, a small boy, a toad named Mr Fluffy, Mount Fanboten, £6.5 million, and a love-struck Officer Lockland are all hard enough to believe, but imagine a situation so dire that only Officer Parrish can save the aforementioned Grint from a lengthy stay in prison. At least, he can—but will he?

Funny, sweet, entertaining

Ok, the Time Police are not normally ‘heartwarming’. Especially Grint. But this time …
It’s a sweet story with quite a bit of humor, a couple of good plot twists, and a toad named Mr. Fluffy. Definitely worth the listen.

The Time Police do not have problems. They have challenges. Idiots who want to change history have always proved 'challenging'. But now temporal tourism is on the rise - highly illegal but highly lucrative. If you're prepared to take the risk. To face down this threat the Time Police will despatch their toughest undercover agents. Which is fine until the unthinkable happens. Replacements are needed fast, and who better than three young officers who don't even look the part?

I liked this one much better than
Book 1 in the series. This had better character development, a more interesting (and distressing) plot, and more humor. Looking forward to the next one.

Story
A long time ago in the future, the secret of time travel became known to all. Unsurprisingly, the world nearly ended. There will always be idiots who want to change history. Enter the Time Police. An all-powerful, international organisation tasked with keeping the timeline straight. At all costs. Their success is legendary. The Time Wars are over. But now they must fight to save a very different future - their own. This is the story of Jane, Luke and Matthew - the worst recruits in Time Police history. Or, very possibly, three young people who might change everything.

Not a bad start, but not ideal
Reviewed: 08-17-23
I loved the St Mary’s crew (sometimes despite Max), so I was interested to see what the TP series would hold.
This first book was decent, but not great, mostly because the only character who had any real development at all was Luke, and even by the end, he was still pretty two dimensional. Also, the fact that Jane is depicted as so painfully foolish as to be unbelievable. That was hard to push through.
Hopefully that will improve as the series progresses, and I’m definitely going to read the 2nd book. The plot line and premise are good, and the narrator is great, so I’ll give it another try.

Story
It's long been known that if a thing can go wrong, it will. With knobs on, usually. Disasters start to pile up. A new colleague with no respect for the past and a great deal to prove. Historians lost in time. And - worst of all - Rosie Lee on her very first jump. Then there's the small matter of Max's dishonourable discharge. From Tudor England to the Tower of Babel - it's all going horribly wrong. Jobless and homeless, Max receives an offer she can't refuse. Another time, another place. A refuge, perhaps. She's got that wrong, too.

Somewhat predictable, but still good
Reviewed: 07-28-23
Let’s be honest, if you’ve made it this far in the Chronicles of St Mary’s series, most of the plot points are no surprise. Max is going to make some very foolish, impetuous decisions, and need to be rescued. Someone’s going to betray Max/St Mary’s. Someone is going to turn out to be not what they seem, usually for the better. If there’s a child involved, the storyline is going to be devastating and heartbreaking, but will eventually work out OK. There will be the usual jokes, running gags, and punchlines. It’s often predictable, but fun, familiar, and entertaining nonetheless.
I liked that there was a left turn or two in this one, rather than the same exact formula, and even some new characters. But even the predictable parts were still enjoyable. (It did feel a bit rushed, though, which hasn’t been my experience with the previous books. Maybe the editor went a bit overboard.)
Bonus points for Rosie Lee getting more involved!

The short stories are often my favorites
Reviewed: 07-27-23
I love the St Mary’s series, but by Book 8 or so, they do become a bit repetitive. This is not the case with the short stories. They’re almost always a breath of fresh air, both in content and in voice. This was one of the best, IMO, which is surprising, since I hate whodunnits. 10/10. Definitely worth the read.

Here's a question for you. What's the most exciting thing ever found in a fire bucket? And don't say 'fire' because you'll be wrong. Suppose - just suppose - it was the technology to take a pod to Mars? Yeah, now we're talking! Every Christmas, for reasons which seem good at the time - especially after an eggnog or two - Max and the others leap into the nearest pod and indulge in their illegal Christmas jump. It's a tradition. This year, however, just to be different, they find themselves part of someone else's illegal Christmas jump. It's time to don a spacesuit and bring your own urine!
