I love that Anderson Cooper narrated his own audiobook! He did a fantastic job!

The way the book was written made for an almost completely effortless and enjoyable listening experience. There were parts near the end when I got confused about who was the sister or daughter or niece of whoever he was talking about, but the confusion about how each person was related only popped up twice, that I recall. I could have solved that issue by not being lazy and just pulling up the PDF to look at the family tree Anderson provided.

The Vanderbilt history was delivered with facts, provided by the US Census Bureau and other credible sources, along with recollections provided by journal entries from his mother and the Commodore’s 2nd wife, and some commentary and recollections from Anderson’s conversations with his mother and stories about his childhood. Absolutely loved it!

This is the most honest, raw, real, accurate advice about office politics that no one wants to talk about, and each law is summed up with simple, helpful, descriptive examples. None of this is backed by science, but if you’ve ever had a job, I’m sure a few of the laws will sound familiar.

I know there are companies that make an effort to remove the types of toxic, childish, manipulative, deceptive, crab people the author mentions, but most businesses, large and small, just don’t care, cuz profit. This audiobook helps guide you through some of the common crap you’ll likely have to deal with at work.

I learned all 8 lessons the hard way, 2 lessons I had just learned earlier this year, the other 6 are common in large companies who employ thousands of people. I’ve also worked for small business owners who fit the cut-throat, back stabbing, drama starting, delusional bosses described here too. I doubt I would have believed any of it, had I not experienced it myself.

The info provided is cynical, negative, it sounds defeatist and is depressingly and completely accurate. This has been the only audiobook I’ve found that provides practical advice and examples on how to handle the useless organizational management policies and the cult-like culture of work. I’m going to be cheesy and thank the author, Robert Greene, for writing this.

The narrator was great, I sped up the narration to 1.4X.

I personally still prefer working for larger companies, despite the unnecessary crap they drag you through. They pay better, provide medical, dental, vision, paid time off, unpaid time off, and some provide a 401K and contribute to it too! If you can ride it out long enough to afford a way out without losing your sanity, or humanity, it’s worth it in my opinion, but to each their own! If you have a job, and you aren’t the boss, this book will help you understand, and get through it.

Rant over.

It took me months to get through this audiobook cuz Blue kept breaking my heart. This audiobook was painfully, heartbreakingly, amazing.

Ashley Antoinette can really pull at your heart with her character development and the mess they get themselves in. Now I’m on to Moth to a Flame, then Ethic.

This is a very short audiobook, because of that, I had set my expectations low.

Just like the title said, I give it props for originality. Having said that, it’s not for me. I feel like reselling other peoples services and pocketing the difference is undercutting the independent contractors and honestly, this takes more work than I’d be willing to put into it while working full time.

Not a bad audiobook, it’s just not for me.

This is mostly about ways to get out of debt with the implied assumptions that the listeners are either shopaholics, bad at budgeting, need a positive mindset, are just absentminded, or have trouble remembering to make payments, but could afford to splurge on fun gadgets and comfortably afford to make payments to catch up.

The few tidbits of relevant info were helpful, like how to get creditors to delete inquiries, but I had to listen to this twice because most of the advice is irrelevant if you, or your family and friends, don’t have money or a job that pays enough for you to keep paying your bills.

Asking friends or family for help or pulling out short term loans so credit card payments aren’t missed during an emergency was a well meaning suggestion. For the rest of us who’s family and friends are also barely getting by or who flat out refuse to help, we are screwed.

If you maxed out credit cards paying for necessities, then lost your job and had trouble finding any job, even part time, for months at a time when the car finally died and student loans kicked in, you should look for another audiobook.

These stories have been entertaining and a bit creepy, but entertaining nonetheless.

I sped up the narration to 1.25x, even though the narrator was good. I’m definitely going to listen to the next audiobook!

The story starts out pretty fast, a seemingly innocent game of Burken turns into running through the woods for your life. Then everything slows down for the backstory and character development, that’s when we slowly realize how everything went so wrong for Charlotte’s family.

The main character Charlotte is 24 years old when introduced to the listeners, and unbelievably naive, which is super annoying, but understandable given her sheltered life.

Without giving away any major details, I’m sure many listeners would say, “how could she not know her dad/brother blah blah blah?” Charlotte was kept blind from her dysfunctional family, manipulated, was probably in denial, and clung to what she had left, then at 24 years old, was suddenly forced to become independent, self sufficient, and face reality while fleeing from a sociopath hunting her with an axe. I can see how she got so messed up, and I’m glad the story ended the way it did.

This takes place in a small town, so people probably keep their issues from the public, but I’m absolutely amazed that Charlotte stayed so blind to everything that happened in her home. No one said anything to her? She never saw or heard anything suspicious? Really??? I’ve always lived in big cities, never in a small town where everyone knows you and could easily ruin your reputation with rumors, but I’m amazed that not even her best friend mentioned anything. Other than that, I liked the story and the narrator. It was interesting!

I loved this audiobook! I wasn’t expecting much from such a short story, but I’m glad I finally listened to this after having it sit in my library for months!

I sped up the narration to 1.5x. I felt like the narrator spoke too slow, but his voice is pleasant and still easy on the ears, even at 1.5x.

I don’t want to give anything away in my review, so I’ll just say that this is the first audiobook I’ve listened to that was completely unpredictable, from start to finish.

Oh, also there’s a sex scene, but it’s nothing overly descriptive or vulgar in my opinion, just FYI!

I’ll definitely be listening to more audiobooks by this author!

Pretty standard info provided by the author. What I did like was how in depth the author went into Amazon Affiliate Marketing, home sharing options like AirBNB and an alternative option to rent land-space, and the pointers on REIT investing.

Will I use any of the options suggested in this audiobook, probably not. I don’t have a website or YouTube channel to promote anything, I rent a room in someone else’s house, REIT investing has a slow return, if any ROI during another recession.

The narrator was ok, I felt his voice sounded better when sped up to 1.5x. This is a good audiobook for beginners. Further research into any of the topics mentioned would definitely be needed, but it’s a one hour audiobook, so that’s to be expected.

I had this audiobook in my library for months and finally listened to it. This is a lesbian short story, which I had not expected, but that’s not why I gave it a low rating.

I didn’t like how salad, large glasses of water, and exercise were portrayed as healthy for anyone, let alone a teenage girl in high school. I was also curious as to why the author chose that odd place to abruptly end the story.

This audiobook is not great, definitely not the worst I’ve ever heard.
