Story
Bryony and her sisters have come down in the world. Their merchant father died trying to reclaim his fortune and left them to eke out a living in a village far from their home in the city. But when Bryony is caught in a snowstorm and takes refuge in an abandoned manor, she stumbles into a house full of dark enchantments. Is the Beast that lives there her captor or a fellow prisoner? Is the house her enemy or her ally? And why are roses blooming out of season in the courtyard?

Story
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Story
Farmer Giles of Ham did not look like a hero. He was fat and red-bearded and enjoyed a slow, comfortable life. Then one day a rather deaf and short-sighted giant blundered on to his land. More by luck than skill, Farmer Giles managed to scare him away. The people of the village cheered: Farmer Giles was a hero. His reputation spread far and wide across the kingdom. So it was natural that when the dragon Chrysophylax visited the area it was Farmer Giles who was expected to do battle with it!

Story
Iris Hollow and her two older sisters are unquestionably strange. Ever since they disappeared on a suburban street in Scotland as children only to return a month a later with no memory of what happened to them, odd, eerie occurrences seem to follow in their wake. And they're changing. First, their dark hair turned white. Then, their blue eyes slowly turned black. They have insatiable appetites yet never gain weight. People find them disturbingly intoxicating, unbearably beautiful, and inexplicably dangerous.

Wanted to love this story
Reviewed: 07-23-21
This book almost hit my DNF list. I was so excited to read this book. It has excellent reviews, the plot sounds so awesome and the MC is a POC young woman! But I found the world building underwhelming and even contradicting at time. The (Main Character), Rue was not a protagonist I could love. Her professions of loving her family and adopted family just fell flat. When they are not present with Rue in the current situation they get zero consideration. Her “grandmother” faced down thugs with guns by throwing groceries at them. She isn’t mentioned again until folks are gathering at the grandmother’s home. Her sister is almost murdered by a henchman posing as a children center leader. This is mentioned again at the end of the book but Rue never alerted the block that there was a predator watching the neighborhoods kids!?! The characters need to be more than one dimensional. Add some world building and character development throughout the whole book. The phrase “made a diamond “ is overused and “make a way” isn’t too far behind it. It could have added so much power if it had been said some else aside from Rue and sister.

Story
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

Story
It's the spring of 1917, and change is in the air. American women have done something remarkable: They've banded together to create military-style training camps for women who want to serve. These so-called National Service Schools prove irresistible to the Kopp sisters, who leave their farm in New Jersey to join up.

The Kopp Sisters Keep Getting Better!
Reviewed: 10-07-19
Best novel yet from Kopp Sisters series! I'll admit I was kinda dubious about the 1st book when I first started it. But I am completely hooked and only want to know more about these sisters' stories! Its set in the early 1900's in New Jersey. This fictional history follows the real life story of three sisters. The eldest in novel 1 (Girl Waits With Gun), learns to defend herself and sisters from being harassed. And then becomes one of the first female deputy sheriff in American History. The social climate and general public's very definite opinion on a woman's place and duty is made crystal clear in novel 1 and following novels. The 5th novel is set leading up to America's involvement with WWI, and thru the progression of the story you see the subtle shifts in social climate.

Any additional comments?
The Flood Girls is a quirky yarn about small town life and rowdy bunch that live there. While the main character is Rachel who has returned from the "Big City" of Missoula, MT to Quinn while she looks for redemption. I found myself really rooting for the other underdogs and misfits in this novel, especially the "fabulous Jake".
