Story
James Patterson leads you into the darkest recesses of the mind with this chilling, immersive audio thriller. We meet Brent Quill, a frustrated actor trying to take his game to the next level. When he learns about the intensive Method acting process, he dives in deep—and immediately lands the lead role in a TV series about a brutal serial killer. But when the Method’s controversial techniques start to take over Brent’s psyche, the lines between real life and acting begin to blur dangerously. How far will Brent go to “become” the character?

Pretty bad.

The performance by Zachary Quinto was fine, the writing was extremely poor. This was an uninteresting and very predictable thriller unfortunately.

Finally gave up.

I decided to abandon the book about 40 minutes from the end. This audiobook was a disaster. The narration leaves a lot to be desired, but the tragedy is in the writing. The stories are predictable because they all rely on cliché horror tropes with no personal touch from the writer. No twists, no flair which ultimately takes away all the horror because the reader knows exactly where every story is heading. The author relies also on crutches in turns of phrase, which feel clumsy and elementary. This was very disappointing overall and I'm hesitant to pick up anything else by this author.

Story
A strange plague called the "Gets" is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget - small things at first, like where they left their keys... then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily - and there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as "ambrosia" has been discovered - a universal healer, from initial reports.

This is my first novel from Nick Cutter. I'm happy to find a horror author that really keeps my attention. The characters are compelling. Cutter hits every subgenre of horror that I personally love. Body horror, the grotesque, insects, even thalassophobia. I can't wait to pick up another of his works.

Story
At the turn of the 20th century, in a rural stretch of the Pacific Northwest, a reclusive orchardist, William Talmadge, tends to apples and apricots as if they were loved ones. A gentle man, he's found solace in the sweetness of the fruit he grows and the quiet, beating heart of the land he cultivates. One day, two teenage girls appear and steal his fruit from the market; they later return to the outskirts of his orchard to see the man who gave them no chase. Feral, scared, and very pregnant, the girls take up on Talmadge's land and indulge in his deep reservoir of compassion.

Loved it.

I read all the reviews that said this book never gives you a break. That's true. I read this book at a time in my life that I experienced an immense loss. It was full of emotion, true human emotion, and I loved it. It was a comfort to me. Talmadge was a character I grew to respect and care for. I would describe the book as a snapshot into a full life, a sad one, but a full one.
