Story
When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss - a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten - by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare - one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

I really enjoyed this book! There were several factors that gave this one a bit more edge than the same old ghost story. You'll have to listen for yourself! Recommend you learn from my mistake and not to listen to it in the middle of the night when you can't sleep. Creeeeeeeekkkkk! Agh! :) enjoy it.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Elin does it again..

Been anxiously awaiting this arrival and did not disappoint! I really enjoyed this story. Started out strong but also very emotional at first as Elin brings us back to the Summer of '69. I was nervous the rest of the book would be that way, as I generally don't like crying through an entire story, but there were only small spats of entertaining drama and spins throughout the book. Hildebrand knows people so well and gets in the minds of her characters always but with this story, she also challenges herself with historical references from 50 years ago and puts herself in those emotional shoes. Narrator also did the voices very well. Looking forward to the next partnership of these two talents! 4 stars only because no beach read to date holds a candle to The Perfect Couple.

Very much just okay...
Reviewed: 06-18-19
It was very much just okay to pass the time with. Actually the only thing that kept me listening at times was the bit of mystery to the plot that had quite a bit of potential. Not a bad story line and as others mentioned, I was glad to listen to a novel that was not all about romantic drama. I was a annoyed at times that the protagonist seemed pretty immature once they revealed her age but perhaps that's due to her upbringing and her going through a tough time. A little redundant at times and the end... welll... eh... you'll see if you're interested in a very much just okay listen.

Pretty interesting but a bit boring too...
Reviewed: 04-19-19
Always a fan of Hildebrand and in this one she gets in the minds of coming of age teens, as well as adult reflections of first love; props on all that! Good plot setting of murder, loss and love, but execution was slow and I felt like the story was a bit isolated. For me at least- it had more potential than delivered. I want to see the first draft or the final written story, this was somewhere in between. It seems like the story cut character interaction until the end it finally got interesting and I actually wanted the story to keep going. Spurts of intense dramatic moments may have fallen flat where the narration was concerned. I wonder if I were reading it myself, that my mind would have made it more interesting for me.
and-Were all of them the antagonist until the end when (ending) and they all find an internal peace of purpose?
Maybe if I were on the beach somewhere instead of waiting for the summer to come I'd have enjoyed it more...

Wasn't sure about this book when I purchased it. I didn't want a book that was too deep for my commute to my rat race job/ life... But! I listened to it and did not disappoint. It's not life-changing, but it's sweet and makes you think which is what I think was the goal of the author and exactly what I was looking for. Light yet thought provoking. Entertaining. The narrator did a fantastic job too! Going to buy a hard copy to share with others.

So much potential...
Reviewed: 02-18-19
I read the reviews of the background music being distracting so perhaps they edited it out of the audio book by the time I downloaded it(?) but what was left was a pretty bad echo and voice over changes. It took some getting used to but if you could get over the poor editing, the performance wasn't so bad actually. As far as the story- It started too slow for my liking, the different story lines changing before you really got anything interesting out of them. The plot in itself had maybe more potential than it could chew... but it does pick up halfway through. If you've already downloaded this book, I'd say hang in there. Otherwise... I'd like to try this author or narrator on a different book as I think the potential is there but just didn't make it for me on this one...

The unapologetic intensity with which Emily Brontë wrote this story ensures that it will forever be considered one of the greatest works of English literature. A passionate tale of a chaotic and often violent love, Wuthering Heights transcends your average romance and, with its Gothic undertones, takes the listener on a journey through one man's lustful hunt for revenge.

I always wanted to read this as I never knew the story line and I'm glad I found this book and performance really well done. I was disappointed when it ended, like there was yet another generation to cover in the story and it could go on forever with their spirits living on! I might go back and listen to the first couple chapters as the story and character development was complex for me to listen to at first, but I trudged on listening and the story just grabbed me. Very entertaining and will be listening to or actually reading again in the near future. Also looking forward to some of the film depictions of the story!
