About this listen

In a windswept British seaside town, single mum Alice Lake finds a man sitting on the beach outside her house. He has no name and no idea how he got there. Against her better judgment, she invites him inside.

Meanwhile, in a suburb of London, 21-year-old Lily Monrose has been married for only three weeks. When her husband fails to come home from work one night, she is left alone in a place where she knows no one and with the police telling her that her husband never existed.

In this suspenseful drama, both women must sort through the secrets surrounding men neither of them knows if they can trust.

Interesting story.. very different.

I’ll give this a solid 4 Stars. Story reveal (ultimately who is the man who lost his memory...is he character A or B or C from flashback) wasn’t super shocking but overall the story kept me engaged the entire time.
The narrator was great with all voices... except Lily’s! Her attempt at an Eastern European accent was dreadful, she sounded more like a bitter sad man than an Eastern European.. let alone a 20 something year old woman! The narration for men was more feminine than Lily’s voice. And it was slow and awful and almost made her unlikable. I think i would’ve liked her a lot more if i read the book vs. listened to it.

Definetely twisted

Quite suspenseful, with a VERY evil bad man at the center of a 20 year tragedy. A very British setting and story, great narration.

Another good one by Jewell

I really life this author. I did find that this one took longer to grab me. I couldn't fall into the story for awhile. Then somehow Jewell worked her magic and I needed to keep listening to hear what happened next. So this wasn't my favorite of her's, but it was good and I do recommend

Interesting, but sending a bad message

Overall, the story was great. However, (spoiler,) I have two adopted, amazing girls from Russia. With so many children in need of adoption, I hate to see a “best-selling book” reinforce the stereotype of “adoptions gone horribly wrong!!” The author could easily have changed the storyline to a narcissistic child being raised in an environment with abuse, neglect, bullying, drugs etc. I deal with children daily, who come out of horrible environments severely damaged or somehow, miraculously conquering a toxic environment. Note to author- think of this in “Schindler” terms. If you discourage ONE individual from adoption, the outcome is catastrophic.

Entertaining

I enjoyed it. Good plot, not too predictable and captivating. I could do without the romance but still enjoyed it, thoroughly.

I had checked this book out at the: public library

I struggled to try to listen to it again. I would recommend to someone who has not read it.

Good Story

Not predictable and different. Worth the credit. Not a thriller but a guessing game of sorts and very descriptive.

Really, really Good!

This is a heartbreaking story that ends up heartwarming! Trigger warning: somewhat graphic sexual abuse, it doesn’t last long but it’s disturbing.
Overall this was one well thought out and written book. The mystery holds you well into the book and when all is brought into the light it still holds you right up to the end! The narrator is great and does an excellent job defining the characters with her voice. Spend the credit!

My Kind of Story!

I love a good mystery, with plot twists that I don't see coming. This story exceeded my expectations and Helen's performance made it all the richer for me. Lisa's tale of intrigue and evil set upon people so normal they could be you or I - or the neighbor next door - makes it exciting. Weaving a sweet love story throughout makes it endearing. I truly enjoyed how Helen managed to make each character come alive with her spot-on accents and inflections. I look forward to my next Lisa Jewell story.

Slow but worth it

It starts out a little bit slow but within a few chapters it gets really good! Bit of a twist and a good mystery all nicely tied up at the end!
