Barbra’s chutzpah
Reviewed: 05-10-24
I loved her truths, & honesty ! The very best autobiography I’ve read because of it authenticity! She says she only remembers the bad reviews so I’d like to say something negative just so she will read and remember this review… but I can’t! There is nothing I can add to the superlatives other admirers have said, but to give accolades to her chutzpah & talent through her fears is a must. Her relentless pursuit for perfection coupled with her childlike fear that she shared on these pages is truly inspiring. What she shares on these pages has made me want to be a better person. So thank you Barbra!

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Very well written...certainly not an uplifting beach read!
Reviewed: 06-10-21
I should have figured that out when reading the details of the book. Hannah’s writing is exceptionally vivid & the narrator was very good. But, even though the events were probably an accurate depiction of the dustbowl, l found it extremely depressing. I kept waiting for it to get less stressful...the author made me feel like I went through it with them, a journey I didn’t enjoy taking!

Few writers capture the complexities, pain, and joy of relationships - between friends, family members, husbands and wives, or lovers - as beloved New York Times best-selling author Dorothea Benton Frank. In this charming, evocative, soul-touching novel, she once again takes us deep into the heart of the magical Lowcountry, where three amazing middle-aged women are bonded by another amazing woman's death.

Depressing & SLOW
Reviewed: 02-09-16
Would you try another book from Paula Hawkins and/or the narrators?
No
Has The Girl on the Train turned you off from other books in this genre?
This might be a book for a recovering alcoholic as it depicts the lead character's battle with alcohol, but it certainly wasn't a cheerful uplifting story line. I couldn't finish listening to it.
Any additional comments?
VERY SLOW PACED
