Story
In the wake of the Kejari, everything Oraya once thought to be true has been destroyed. A prisoner in her own kingdom, grieving the only family she ever had, and reeling from a gutting betrayal, she no longer even knows the truth of her own blood. She’s left only with one certainty: she cannot trust anyone, least of all Raihn. The House of Night, too, is surrounded by enemies. Raihn’s own nobles are none too eager to accept a Turned king, especially one who was once a slave. And the House of Blood digs its claws into the kingdom, threatening to tear it apart from the inside.

Story
Following the explosive events of The Damned, Odette faces a vampire’s final death. The Court of the Lions have done everything they can to save her but have failed. A healer from the Sylvan Vale could help her, but only Arjun Desai, as a half fey, can cross the boundary between realms. The Sylvan Vale is a world Arjun despises, and in return, it despises him. But knowing it could save Odette, he returns to the Vale with all haste, leaving the mirrored tare between the two worlds open and unwittingly setting the stage for both love and war.

Absolutely insane ending to the third book that left me a gasp.
The voice author is incredible in their various voices for each character which makes the story so immersive and enthralling — so I love that. I will say that there are times that it’s hard for me to hear her so I feel like the vocal intensity (or perhaps the audio recording intensity) isn’t 100%, but I’m still going onto the fourth book!

Since the 1970s, FantasticLand has been the theme park where "Fun is Guaranteed!" But when a hurricane ravages the Florida coast and isolates the park, the employees find it anything but fun. Five weeks later, the authorities who rescue the survivors encounter a scene of horror. Photos soon emerge online of heads on spikes outside of rides and viscera and human bones littering the gift shops, breaking records for hits, views, likes, clicks, and shares.

Performance Spoiled Underwhelming Story
Reviewed: 06-23-24
When this book started I was so shocked by the story I couldn’t tell if this was fiction or not — but when the vocal performances for each interviewee were from the same two actors that idea was immediately spoiled for me.
Now the actual writing of each interview was too similar for me — linguistically speaking, each one of them said phrases too similar that also killed my immersion into the story.
What was the nail in the coffin was the order & flow of the interviews. They felt too disjointed and each one ended feeling empty & incomplete. There were, also, so many interviews that when interviewees were circled back to later in the story I couldn’t remember who they were (even though I listened to this in the span of a couple of days).
Sadly this was not for me. I couldn’t even finish the remaining 2.5hrs because it was so unenjoyable.

Story
It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

Profound & Soul Nourishing
Reviewed: 07-31-22
Brene really speaks to my soul. She is a NORMAL person - not someone sitting in their Hightower explaining how “other” people act. She relates everything she researches to her own life. I have an extensive trauma/ abuse/ neglect history, am in my own sobriety & addiction recovery, and am continuously working on becoming a person who truly acts in accordance with their fundamental beliefs. I’ve been on this journey for a few years now - desperate for connection that I couldn’t maintain because of my triggers, trauma reactions, and intense lashing out behaviors. Now I’m working to grow and maintain HEALTHY, meaningful connections in my own life. This work is also so important as I am a speech-language pathologist and encounter many of these emotions in the patients I treat and am privileged to serve. There is so much power having to language to put to our experiences and our emotions. I am deeply thankful for Brene Brown and the fact that I can look up to her as a sober role model but also a vulnerability& connection role model. I loved this so much I bought the physical book to go along side it& it is truly a work of art, but nothing beats hearing Brene speak such intimate words!
