Once again we get to visit with old friends. It is such great fun to watch Royce and Hadrian’s backstories fill in. As with each of Sullivan’s other books I am completely entertained the whole book through. I can’t wait to start the next one!

Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place. Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan. Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie. But becoming a supervillain isn't all giant laser death rays and lava pits.

Another Fun Scalzi Tale
Reviewed: 10-07-23
Yet another fun story, told from relatable character in classic Scalzi prose. Scalzi’s take on the super villain is as fresh and fun as Redshirts was on Star Trek. As always Wil Wheaton is a most enjoyable narrator. My only complaint is that it was over too soon.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

A bit more fanciful than The Martian, but Weir’s fun and informative science-based prose is every bit as good as his first book. Hail Mary is a delight from start to finish. Ray Porter’s reading is on point as always. If you liked The Martian, get this audio book! If you haven’t read the Martian, get this audio book…then go get The Martian!

This was such a fun and fascinating book! It is rare prose that can get you all fired up about the past and current blows being dealt to our democracy while at the same time making you hopeful for a brighter future. I learned more in 12 hours than I did in a year of Government class.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

This is a fun book. It is a great mix of science, engineering and pop culture references. I feel like Ryan Reynolds just read me a high school science textbook.
Macgyver + Robinson Crusoe (Apollo13 - Ed Harris) = The Martian.

One minute, they're drinking away the dreariness of their lives, escaping into a fantasy game and laughing their asses off. The next minute, they're in a horse-drawn cart surrounded by soldiers pointing crossbows at them.

While I've read (and listened) to better books in this genre, this was a fun listen, and was never boring. The sophomoric humor set in a fantasy world reminded me of OFF TO BE THE WIZARD, or better yet ARMY OF DARKNESS.

The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.
