Truly excellent. I see what all three fuss has been about all this time. Definitely the kind of book one comes back to many times over.

A cliffhanger!

Gray man always delivers, albeit a bit “ok the nose” this time with hive mind killers dropping dead on the cusp of hero’s imminent death, however, the cliffhanger ending has me excited for the next book!

Story
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Even the smartest among us can feel inept as we fail to figure out which light switch or oven burner to turn on, or whether to push, pull, or slide a door. The fault, argues this ingenious - even liberating - audiobook, lies not in ourselves, but in product design that ignores the needs of users and the principles of cognitive psychology. The Design of Everyday Things shows that good, usable design is possible. The rules are simple: make things visible, exploit natural relationships that couple function and control, and make intelligent use of constraints.

Possibly not what you think
Reviewed: 05-10-23
Don’t get me wrong, this is a good book especially if you’re interested in human psychology and how it impacts design.
It is, however, not a history or closer look at how things we use everyday were designed. Some examples are given here and there, but not in any great detail on the processes and history involved in getting to the final design.
I enjoyed the book regardless of the above, just an FYI.

Very average “revenge porn” where every female character is “hot or not” and every male is less alpha than the protagonist.
Think The Punisher, but where most of the plot is “tHe LiBeRaLs ArE tAKInG mAh GuNs!”.
The author’s obvious expertise in Seal tactics and weaponry is the only silver lining.
