Story
Morgan used to be a pretty normal guy. He went to college by day and played online games by night, leading his guild into new conquests - until he got hit by a car and a dude wearing a wet suit appeared in front of him. The man offered him a new chance at life in a world he had created, a world with similar rules to the games Morgan loved to play. There is the promise of great rewards and power, he says, if Morgan manages to complete the Tower of Power.

It’s just okay
Reviewed: 04-19-24
The narrator kept saying things under his breath. Unfortunately, when doing this as a whisper, the listener cannot hear what is being said without turning the volume up. You can’t listen to the full story with the volume on high. It is frustrating to have to stop and go back to hear what was said.
The MC is supposed to have played a lot of video games, yet simple things, like hobgoblins, are unfamiliar to him. A lot of scenarios like this happen throughout the story and it just doesn’t make sense considering the MC’s history.

Story
The world watches the sky with trepidation. The insanity of Xenocide knew no bounds, and all will soon suffer the effects he had planned for a millennium. Though none know what is to come, they all know it isn't going to be easy to survive. The Master has a plan, one that can give the world at large a way to escape the onrushing desolation. It may be on the bleeding edge of morality and what he needs might prove too difficult to secure, but the Master asks for trust. Cal and Dale both have their role to play as the world hurtles toward destruction.

Such stupid voices!!
Reviewed: 10-21-23
If you want to go through the pain of listening to a story with a cast of voices such as a country bumpkin, Mr. Mackey from South Park, Jack Nicholson at his most annoying, a leprechaun, Popeye, a whiny preacher from the Deep South, all of the voices of Robin Williams, Seth Macfarlane and Adam Sandler, Bill Murray’s mentally unstable greenskeeper from Caddyshack, some people from old Russia, Britain and Scotland then this is the Audible book for you!! All it managed to do was give me a headache. I couldn’t focus on the story because of the completely random voices the narrator chose. Any new narrator that takes over a story should be forced to first listen to the previous books. This was just bad.

So repetitive
Reviewed: 07-03-22
I don't know how many more "Ugh" comments I can tolerate or how every character now treats the inside of their cheek like bubblegum. This nonsense wasn't happening in the first book, but, it went out of control in this one. There are also a lot of mispronounced words.
Why are there not people who check on this type of thing??

Then I go to stay at my aunt's while starting college, and she's killed because of me, her home invaded by demons, and I learn there is so much more going on in the world than I could have ever understood. Throw in a couple of gargoyles and me unlocking an ancient path to insane amounts of magic, and you have my story. Be careful, though, as it's not for the prude at heart.

Summer vacation isn’t all fun and hanging out when you’re a wizard-in-training. For partly reformed warlock Chance Fortunato, it’s even worse. In addition to the constant study and training, he has to prove he’s ready to be a full-fledged apprentice before he starts at the Franklin Academy. Plus, he’s beginning to think someone has it out for him. If things weren’t bad enough with a snooty proctor monitoring his every move and demons trying to capture him, his father finally makes his first attempt to get his wayward son back under his control by trying to frame his mom.

A very annoying listen
Reviewed: 06-30-21
I am just into chapter 4 and already at a point where I want my credit back. For some reason, the author decided to salt and pepper this book with an overabundance of, ""I said." "He said." "She said."" About 1/4 of the story are those exact words. It is incredibly frustrating to hear repeatedly.

The Beast had Belle. Killian Black has me. How I got here doesn’t matter, even though he says it does. Says it was my choice. He doesn’t get it, though. It wasn’t ever a choice for me. And now, he’s changing the rules. The agreement was one month. For 30 days, I’d be his. He’s no longer satisfied with my body alone, though. He wants my soul, too. Wants every part of me. And even though I can pretend I’m safe when I lie beneath him, this man does something to me. Something wicked. A thing that will break me.

The narrator over-enunciated and the delivery felt deliberately slow. I had to speed it up just to try and make listening tolerable. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into the story because she was very nasally, thus, every character sounded as if they had a stuffy nose.

Story
The magic I possess - the magic I’m quickly mastering - it can destroy whole cities. Start wars. Change the tides of a battle. As the dragon vessel, pretty much everyone wants me either locked up or dead. Out of the shadows comes a new threat - a fighter who reminds me a little too much of my mentor. He wants to take my old place at Zurie’s side. And the only way he can get it, apparently, is to kill me. Dragons and humans alike just won’t leave me alone. In the end, that’s going to be their fatal mistake. Because I don’t go down quietly.

I'm on book 3 of this series and I had hoped that Olivia would've tightened up on her writing skills. At the very least, she should get a proofreader. The annoyingly constantly recurring issue in all three of these books, so far, is that when Olivia decides to use a term or phrase, she has it repeated within the next three sentences. She also has terms that she repeats multitudes of times. She seems to forget from moment to moment what abilities she has given to her characters. Sometimes they can crush granite without even trying. Other times, they can barely squeeze a lemon. Sometimes a bullet will bounce off their skin without even a tickle. Other times they get hit with a wind-blown twig and collapse to their knees. Come on, Olivia, be consistent! How many more books do I have to go through and listen to Rory complain about how strong the pull is to Jayce and how it gets stronger every time...and it is too hard to resist... YET EVERY SINGLE TIME, it's somehow resisted... but she's losing her will to fight it. Doesn't seem like it to me.

Story
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.

Not an easy listen
Reviewed: 01-03-21
I am having a really difficult time with this novel. The story and narration combined are making nearly every character seem like a-holes. This was not the impression I got from the other books. So far, I haven't even finished the first chapter and I am really hating it. Edward's personality, in this story, isn't a self-loathing, confused and infatuated vampire. He is a self-absorbed, arrogant jerk who seems to have nothing nice to say about anyone. This was not what I was expecting at all. I expected to understand the story from his perspective and I don't feel like that's what this book is giving me. It doesn't even feel like it was written by the same author. Right now, it is a complete disappointment. I am going to give it some time and will update my review once I decide my final opinion.

Story
From the end of the 18th century, Americans traveled west to find new homes and new lands. They brought with them the magics of plain people. It is from these roots of the American dream that award-winning writer Orson Scott Card has crafted what the Charlotte Observer called "a uniquely American fantasy." Using the lore and the folk magic of the men and women who settled a continent, and the beliefs of the tribes who were here before them, Card has created an alternate frontier America.
