About this listen

Morgan used to be a pretty normal guy. He went to college by day and played online games by night, leading his guild into new conquests - until he got hit by a car and a dude wearing a wet suit appeared in front of him. The man offered him a new chance at life in a world he had created, a world with similar rules to the games Morgan loved to play. There is the promise of great rewards and power, he says, if Morgan manages to complete the Tower of Power. Stupid name, I know.

Morgan didn't usually trust strangers who seem to have god complexes, but he was in a pinch. There's a crazy-looking dude saying he is technically not a god on one end of the tunnel and a blinding light on the other end - and he was really not digging the light.

So he accepted the offer from the surfer god-not-god.

Getting dropped into a strange new world with no idea what the rules are was not something Morgan was a fan of; and in this strange world, it seems like everything is out to eat his face. It was a good thing, then, that he stumbled onto two half-elf twins willing to help him get the hang of this strange new world.

Now, all he needs to do is survive long enough to reach this tower.

Felt like watching a video game!

This was a fun read! I don’t play RPGs, but I will watch others play and have enjoyed anime and manga in this genre. I want to read more to see what happens next!

Solid

Not perfect, as no author is above criticism. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the ones that follow. I don’t like The authors blatant use of Abeds catchphrase from Community for one of the main catchphrases of the MAIN character. A few other dumb bits thrown in when one of the secondary characters joins up that make no sense and make the MC seem like a racist. Idk what he was thinking, but it also made the MC look like a total moron.

Isekai RPG Elements

I like pretty everything but the main character. In fact I'm mainly leaving this review because I hate the mc. When attempting to create a fish out of water character who doesn't know much of anything about their new environment you have to figure out how to get them up to speed without having them ask question after question. Every single question that pops into Morgan's mind he asks and then asks 15 more. Also, in an attempt to showcase that he's from another world and doesn't know anything he often blurts out really stupid things that nobody would blurt out. Like telling a character he finds intimidating that her name doesn't fit her race. If Morgan was mean spirited or disrespectful it would make sense. If he was arrogant it would make sense. But despite the fact that he's both really nice and scared of the character he basically insults her to her face upon their first meeting. This is just one example. I think the mc is terribly written. Notice that my review score is still quite high. Because everything else is pretty cool. I fully recommend the book.

A+

Being it was part of audible plus I didn’t have high hopes but this book is even worth a credit if needed. I enjoyed it

More human than his other series

Whereas the more popular Infinite Realm series by the same author is a more structured world view with incredibly focused and stiff characters, this series lets loose and just feels more human. It’s not in my top 5 litRPG countdown, but it’s still good. I care where the story goes and find the premise and world interesting as a light listen while exercising or building a puzzle.

Great story, ruined by narration.

Ivan Kal creates some great stories, but this narrator is terrible. His voices are almost all way too dramatic or talks too fast. The rhythm is just off.

I'm not going to give any spoilers

I'm not going to give this book a bad review just because I didn't like it. I think it is a well written book. it had a good plot the narrator did an excellent job it just wasn't for me. o tried to like it bit I just couldn't get into it. however my opinion aside if these are the types of books you enjoy I think you will end up liking this book. you should always keep your options open who knows a book you think you won't like you may end up loving. eithe way over all it was a good book just not my kind of book.

Good start

I listened to this after reading Ivan’s other series hoping it would be as good and this book didn’t disappoint. What I love about Ivan’s books is that the supporting cast is powerful and useful and not just there for decoration.

Enjoyable and fun

So yes this a fun story. The main protagonist Morgan’s pov is funny and witty.

I will say that the gender dynamics are a bit… antiquated but not horribly so.

Not Bad

This was a great new take on isakie and I feel that the video game mechanics just adds to the story very much. Hopefully the rest of the series continues the stride this book gave me, now onto the next one!
