Story
Mary B. Addison killed a baby. Allegedly. She didn't say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered: a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary, and the jury made it official. But did she do it?

All the reviews said how great it was and how there was this twist. I didn’t think it had any sort of twist. I want my credit back!

One of the worst books I have tried. I usually go by the reviews, but I may need to stop that. No point, no plot, just dumb.

Hard to get through…
Reviewed: 02-26-25
As much as I liked the music references, I just couldn’t get excited to listen to more. I trudged through, and got the very anticlimactic ending. The characters were just dull. Like zero personality. And the narrators didn’t help make them seem any more fun to be around. No difference in any voices. And fair warning, there is the requisite same sex romance, which always has to be jammed down everyone’s throat.

Story
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Could do without the Covid BS
Reviewed: 09-22-24
As usual, the story kept me interested. It was a bit slow to start. But the author is such a raging liberal, who likes to think she shows both sides, but it is very very obvious doesn’t. I always wonder what conservative, religious, white man slapped her around, that has made her so hateful towards them. And the Covid stuff didn’t hold up well, as we all know that all those Covid deaths were not really Covid deaths. But I’m sure she’s a triple vaccinated maskhole, just waiting for her blood clot.

For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. I love this author’s ability to spin a tale. I hate her ability to put her little political jabs in. I think she feels weak if she can’t belittle anyone with a different point of view than her. If you just go in knowing she’ll do that (because she always does that), you’ll like it.

Story
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

I really liked the characters, the narrators were amazing, the overall story was just a nice comforting, slice of life romance. And newsflash, there doesn’t need to be a bunch of social pandering to specific outspoken groups to have a great novel!
