Story
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Insightful just wasn’t a fan of the Amazon fawning

I generally enjoy Grant’s work so “Think Again” met my expectations. The only place where I thought it fell flat was where he lauds Amazon’s work culture. While it is financially successful, it is well documented that they have a toxic work culture for hourly workers which relies on hyper-surveillance, micro-management and punitive point systems. This part of the book felt so disingenuous and “oh hail the knowledge worker” that I had to stop listening for a week. I hope that in the future Grant provides a more nuanced views of the companies he features and looks at the non-salaried employee experience as well. The irony that I am reviewing this on Audible is not lost on me 😂

Great YA story- it got a teeny bit slow at times when there was more Friendship bonding exposition but otherwise the story was compelling enough to keep me interested. I also thought Alex’s “gift” discovery was a lost opportunity so wondering where that will go in future books. World building was pretty decent and hope there will be more explanation of how humans came to Medora.

Story
It's the age-old 30-something's dilemma: If you did ecstasy in the '90s, does it mean you've done Molly? Dragging her raver ass out of retirement to revisit her teenaged party days, Mary H.K. Choi throws herself into the belly of the EDM beast to see if there's anything to this Molly business. And to find out if doing recreational drugs as a bored adult is the key to staying young or if this is the worst, most embarrassing and irresponsible idea ever.

Loved this essay- it perfectly captures the ennui of middle age vs the innocence of young adulthood. I do miss how easy it used to be to talk to strangers. People are just so much more open when you are 20… when you are 40, people are so closed off. Can totally see how MDMA opens the gates again temporarily.
Can’t wait to listen to more…

Great premise- plodding storyline

Was excited for this sequel, but got completely bored in parts because it was like a greatest hits of 80s movie/music culture and then expected nerd fandom. Could have been more original in that way. I wish they had really explored the relationship between Og and Kira more or explained why Anorak was amassing an army... it felt incomplete in those areas. The Arcadia arc is interesting and reminded me of a more benign version of Altered Carbon... guess we’ll see if there will be a Ready Player 3.
