Story
Martha Ratliff conceded long ago that she’d likely spend her life alone. She was fine with it, happy with her solo existence, stimulated by her work as a librarian in Maine. But then she met Alan, a charming and sweet-natured salesman whose job took him on the road for half the year. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, even though he still felt a little bit like a stranger.

Disliked some narration .
Story seemed blah at times . I LOVED- a Kind worth killing, LIKED -a kind worth saving , just felt ambivalent about this one . Decent if you want to keep following the characters.

So good . I was distracted with life so I had to keep rewinding in the beginning- I like to really understand what is going on in an audiobook so it was a slow start for me . Once I really got into it , I was captivated. The narrator was perfection. So many human dynamics.such a great setting . Loved this book because it was very different from the norm . Lots to love here .

Story
True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.

I guess I’m not much of a sci -fi fan ( is this sci-fi?) This came up on a lot of thriller site recommendations. Too weird and confusing and just didn’t find it enjoyable. Sorry ! I guess it had potential but just was a struggle for me to keep listening .I did think the first 1/3 was interesting. Without spoiling it just kind of turned into a cluster for me .

I admit to being a snob when it comes to free books, but I was out of credits and saw it was a good reads choice . Well I learned something, WOW ! The writing is really engaging and I think the author has amazing talent . The narrator was superb, one of the best I have listened to. The story so compelling, loved it ; dark without being too gruesome ( at least for me). I will definitely seek out more works by these two .
Highly recommend. Listened to while painting, made my work fly by !!!

I saw that several reviewer’s did not care for this narration. I actually thought it was good. To me it matched the character as being calm and professional. I chose this book as a break from the Tess Gerritson series ( similar scenarios of ME and police . Different style . I like both . This was my first book by this author and although the forensics are dated now - I am looking forward to the next in the series .

This book started off great .
I admit I enjoyed listening and looked forward to getting back to the book . I do like the author’s style and I loved What Alice Forgot , so I was interested .
As I neared the end , it was so dull and tidy that I almost wasn’t even interested in finishing -
I felt like” that’s it???”
Very boring last quarter
I was hoping for something exciting I guess
For those who like a happy neat tidy ending this is for you .

Really enjoyed this listen(after a few not-so-enjoyables). I didn’t guess the plot until midway . I thought narration was fantastic .
Very entertaining for those who like this type of genre .true, was dark but I appreciate that the writer did not focus on disturbing the listener/reader with unnecessary details that sometimes I find too much.
This was my first book by this author
Will certainly try another .

Story
Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

I started out interested in the abduction of Alice , but I agree with others - too graphic and disturbing . And the rest of the story I struggled through -
Grew tired of the perfect family , and the narration - didn't care for so much " acting".
Just wasn't for me, but that's ok.
