Story
When Sloan Krause walks in on her husband, Mac, screwing the barmaid, she gives him the boot. Sloan has spent her life in Leavenworth, Washington becoming an expert in brewing craft beer, and she doesn't have time to be held back by her soon-to-be ex-husband. She decides to strike out on her own, breaking away from the Krause family brewery, and goes to work for Nitro, the hip new nano-brewery in the Bavarian-themed town. But then she finds one of Nitro's competitors dead in the fermenting tub, clutching the secret recipe for the IPA.

Decent story.

The story was good - lots of different events kept it interesting. I didn't love the narrator. she was a little breathy for Sloan and a little wooden for Garrett, IMO. Also, I hate Mac. That character gave me the creeps.

Story
Everyone in Athena, Mississippi, knows Charlie Harris, the good-natured librarian with a rescued Maine coon cat named Diesel that he walks on a leash. He's returned to his hometown to immerse himself in books, but soon enough he's entangled in a real-life thriller. A famous author of gory bestsellers and a former classmate of Charlie's, Godfrey Priest may be the pride of Athena, but Charlie remembers him as an arrogant, manipulative jerk—and he's not the only one. Godfrey's homecoming as a distinguished alumnus couldn't possibly go worse: by lunch, he's put a man in the hospital.

Female narrator is an odd choice
Reviewed: 07-17-24
I've listened to many of the books in the series and I keep hoping the choice of a female narrator will make sense. She is a good narrator but since the lead character is male, I find it very distracting to hear "him" in a female's voice.

the story itself was fun, and quirky, and held my attention. that narration was spot on. I love Jeneva's books already, so I hope these 2 collaborate again in the future!

The narration ruined it for me
Reviewed: 10-12-23
I really like this author and her other novels. I would probably would like this I paper form. I'm sure I've heard this narrator on other books, but she is not right for this. The book is set in Virginia, but the accents are leaning toward British-English rather than American-English. That made it hard to follow. I won't be listening to the rest of the series.

There's a cat in the stacks...and he makes the purr-fect partner for a librarian-turned-sleuth. Everyone in Athena, Mississippi, knows librarian Charlie Harris - and his Maine coon cat named Diesel that he walks on a leash. They also know his former classmate-turned-famous best-selling novelist, Godfrey Priest. But someone in Athena took Godfrey off the best seller lists - permanently, and with extreme prejudice. Now, Charlie and Diesel must browse through the history section of the town's past to find a killer.

needs a different narrator

I agree with other reviews. Having a female narrator for a male main character is just weird. An occasional male character is fine but this is just not working. The narrator herself is good and would be great in other circumstances.

Story
Pediatrician Kent Abner received the package on a beautiful April morning. Inside was a cheap trinket, a golden egg that could be opened into two halves. When he pried it apart, highly toxic airborne fumes entered his body - and killed him. After Eve Dallas calls the hazmat team - and undergoes testing to reassure both her and her husband that she hasn’t been exposed - it’s time to look into Dr. Abner’s past and relationships. Not every victim Eve encounters is an angel, but it seems that Abner came pretty close.

I think I'm done
Reviewed: 11-18-21
Like many reviewers, I have listened to all of the In Death books. I have hit my limit with Eve being such an angry, selfish, self-centered...person. She is horrible to Peabody. She shows no interest in anything in Roarke's life, only what he can do for her.
And we get it: she has a dent in her chin, she apparently hates to eat, always has mind-blowing sex, is never wrong, hates the hospital, insists on toughing out any injuries because she's better than everyone else, and everyone else needs to jump to her demands and their opinions mean nothing.
I'll be saving my credits for something more entertaining.

Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn’t spoken one word to Drue in all this time - she doesn’t even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media - so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless.

the narration was irritating
Reviewed: 09-10-21
I like the book - a typical beach read: 2 women were friends, then they weren't and then they were again (this isn't a spoiler) - but the narration was irritating. What is "codden", or "wridden", or "straighdend"? Seriously, the lack of "t"s were making me crazy.
I would say, read it, but read the book.
