About this listen

In the latest thriller in the number-one New York Times best-selling series, homicide detective Eve Dallas investigates a murder with a mysterious motive - and a terrifying weapon.

Pediatrician Kent Abner received the package on a beautiful April morning. Inside was a cheap trinket, a golden egg that could be opened into two halves. When he pried it apart, highly toxic airborne fumes entered his body - and killed him.

After Eve Dallas calls the hazmat team - and undergoes testing to reassure both her and her husband that she hasn’t been exposed - it’s time to look into Dr. Abner’s past and relationships. Not every victim Eve encounters is an angel, but it seems that Abner came pretty close - though he did ruffle some feathers over the years by taking stands for the weak and defenseless.

While the lab tries to identify the deadly toxin, Eve hunts for the sender. But when someone else dies in the same grisly manner, it becomes clear that she’s dealing with either a madman - or someone who has a hidden and elusive connection to both victims.

The 50th

I did note that this is Robb’s fiftieth book in the Death Series and the title is “Golden in Death”. Robb continues to amaze me by not repeating crimes. Each book is different. This time, she outdoes herself with a creative murder.

The book is well written and continues the futuristic police procedural. I enjoyed Lt. Eve Dallas and Detective Delia Peabody’s adventure while solving the crime. There is humor, action and interesting characters in the story. I wonder when one of them is going to get a promotion in rank. This is a great get-away-from-it-all book.

The book is thirteen hours and fifty minutes. Susan Ericksen does an excellent job narrating the book. Ericksen has been the only narrator of the series. She is a multi-award-winning audiobook narrator.

Spoiled Rich Kids!

Enjoyed the story. However, I just wish the stories involved some of the original characters. They were colorful and gave Eve a little more character development. The stories of their past add insight into the current timeline. Looking forward to the next book.

Can you believe 50 books?

As Eve Dallas has said before, a murder is often a long time in the making. The resentment simmered from a young age in this one.
Amazed that this series is up to 50 books and I still remember buying the first paperbacks at Walden Books on Madison in Chicago. I was already a long time fan of Nora Roberts and was thrilled to find out she had more books. Thanks to those great staff members for turning me on to some great books and authors.
Ericksen does another great job narrating this series.

Love this series

These stories bring me joy to wait on, listen to more than once and wait again. Eve Dallas is my favorite character. I hope they make this into a mini series some day or at least a movie. It may not be the same as the wonderful narrator who reads each character exactly as I imagine they sound. Its awesome from start to finish and her relationships with everyone is heartwarming and hilarious at once. I recommend this series to everyone who enjoys mystery, romance and relatable-life and sarcastic humor. Its impossible to hear all the details the first time around.

I've read all of these, but the audiobooks are even better. I love the matured relationships and the banter.

Nora Roberts aka JD Robb Does it Again!!!

It feels like I've been waiting forever for this next book and it was worth it!! Absolutely LOVE the In Death series and now cannot wait for book #51!! Congrats, Miz Nora, on book 50! It kept me interested from beginning to end! It was like meeting up with an old friend and picking up where we had left off with no hitches. Highly recommend the WHOLE series!!

Dependable Eve Dallas - Another Good One!

This time Eve realizes the murder victims are spouses and the killer(s) want targets to suffer by losing teir loved ones. The murder method is insidious. Packages arrive containing golden eggs, which, when opened, release fast-dissipating nerve gas in a small area. Just enough to kill a victim and quickly disperse.
No Mavis or Nina in this one. Not a lot of McNabb either. Just Peabody and Eve, interviewing victims and suspects and Eve's getting an occasional assist from Roarke. Kept my interest all the way through.

Jd Robb never disappoints

This was a great listen and Eve Dallas predictably got her killer again. Surprising how a series 50 books long is still so entertaining.

Golden in Death

50 books in and I love this series more than I did at the beginning. Honestly, it’s simply amazing how every book just builds on this perfect series. And the narrator is perfect through every book!
