How relatable this book is to everyday life.
Reviewed: 03-15-24
I came across this book by "accident" and decided to listen to it. My hands were busy otherwise I may have changed it without actually paying attention. I was engaged right away with this book and narrator. How the narrator performed kept my interest and the exemplified how the author meant his words to relate to our everyday life. The author also helped me understand understand areas of the Bible that had otherwise either confused me or bored me.
Thank you both for the enjoyable and educational time. I've already followed the author and added all his books to my library!
Definitely 5*

My own Grandmother was one of 7 siblings with her parents that immigrated to the US right after WWI from Ireland. This book reminded me of some of the stories she used to tell my sisters and me growing up. Tales of Ireland and tales of being an immigrant growing up in Pittsburgh, Pa. I truly loved and connected to this book. The narrator was soft spoken and attentive to each character. Wonderful book.

It all starts when their new nanny is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house, carrying a parrot-headed umbrella and a magic carpetbag. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins.

After being brought up on the Disney version, I was extremely surprised by this book and the several differences between the two. This version is fantastic. I would have rather seen this made into the movie than the other.

In Amanda Skenandore's provocative and profoundly moving debut, set in the tragic intersection between white and Native American culture, a young girl learns about friendship, betrayal, and the sacrifices made in the name of belonging.
