Very beautifully written novel, with well developed characters delivering a strong message. I didn’t want it to end.

I like how this novel captured in era in Canadian history even though it was not really a proud moment in time.

An at times touching story of a behind the scenes relationship that changed America. Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune are American heroes.

Although it took quite awhile to realize it, and get past some of the gorier scenes, this is an incredible tour de force. I was not expecting there to be loose ends that were tied together so well.

At first it seemed a bit like an old newsreel until I allowed myself to be caught in the era. This really captured a slice of America in 1938.

A most uninteresting story about characters not worth caring about. The only thing mildly interesting is realizing whom each daughter was named after in their parent's lives. I won't spoil that for you. I'm not sure why this book has been popular.
