A journey of Healing: A Powerful Guide for Survivors of Sexual Abuse
Reviewed: 07-08-24
I want to acknowledge that this book can be incredibly triggering, but I also want to assure you that it's a transformative and validating read. The author provides practical exercises to help you work through your healing journey, but please, take your time and be gentle with yourself. Don't rush the process, and remember that your journey is unique to you.
If you're a survivor of sexual abuse, I want you to know that I see you, I hear you, and I believe you. This book accurately captures the devastating impact of childhood sexual abuse, and reading it was a powerful experience for me. It helped me understand that my feelings and reactions weren't excessive or unfounded, but rather a natural response to trauma.
Remember, healing from sexual abuse is a journey, not a destination. It's okay to take your time, to feel your emotions, and to seek support when you need it. This book is a crucial resource, but don't be afraid to reach out to a therapist or trusted friend or family member for additional support.
Whether you're a survivor or seeking to understand the complexities of sexual abuse, this book is a powerful companion on your journey. It offers a safe space to confront the past, work through emotions, and find a path towards healing and recovery. Remember, you are not alone, and your journey matters.

Exposing the Underreported Problem of Partner Sexual Abuse

This book is a powerful and relatable read, although it may be triggering for some. I felt a deep connection to the author's words, as if I could have written them myself. The book accurately portrays the devastating reality of partner sexual abuse, which is not just 'bad sex' but a violent and abusive act. Reading this book was a validating experience for me, as it helped me realize that my feelings and reactions were not excessive or unfounded. The trauma of partner sexual abuse lingers deeply and can be incredibly painful. I highly recommend this book to both victims and abusers, as it offers a crucial understanding of this complex issue.

Robyn was wrong for sharing some of these details
Reviewed: 03-26-23
This was a decent book for the most part. I learned a lot about Whitney from Robyn's perspective.
My main issue with this book is Robyn was dirty for telling some of her best friends intimate details. She could've left out the part about her monthly, Eddies birthday/fur coat and the details about the condoms. To me those were unnecessary, extremely personal details. The way she exposed some private details is not loyal at all and makes her seem shady, not horrible but shady. I'm disappointed and Whitney would most likely be hurt but some of the content shared. I honestly think she wrote this book because she needed money. A real friend wouldn't have said all this bs. Robyn next time tell about you monthly accidents, that was not your business to tell. Wow

White Fragility

Story
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

As a white person, I have found this book to be incredibly enlightening. If you find yourself becoming defensive or offended while reading it, then it's likely that you need to read it even more. The book sheds light on the harsh reality that slavery has led to ongoing racism against Black people, and it's not the fault of anyone alive today. However, we are responsible for perpetuating it, and it's up to us to acknowledge and dismantle it. Our ancestors created this system, and we must take ownership of our role in maintaining it.
I understand that some Black people may seem angry, and rightfully so. I would be angry too if I had faced the same injustices. We need to stop victim-blaming and take accountability for our actions. This book has helped me understand racial issues better, and I'm grateful for that.
One of my biggest takeaways is that affirmative action isn't about hiring unqualified Black people over qualified white people. That's a misconception that's been debunked. I also realized that I've benefited from privilege, even though I live paycheck to paycheck. That's classism, and it's still better to be a poor white person than a poor Black person. We receive better treatment, and that's not fair. Reading this book has been a wake-up call for me, and I'm grateful for the newfound understanding I've gained.

Story
People from different walks of life all want the same thing: success. Some are lucky enough to be at a position where they can easily realize their goals in life. Others, though, are not so fortunate. For most people, achieving success means making a lot of sacrifices. Sometimes these sacrifices pay off, and one's goals are met. In other times, however, success slips past, regardless if one has paid his dues, so to speak.
