Story
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

What did you like best about this story?
I loved learning more about the blitz on London and the forced evacuation of the children to the English Countryside.
Any additional comments?
I found the actions of the main character, Emmaline/Isabelle to be sooo frustrating- and a little unbelievable. At so many turns, she acted illogically and even though the author strove to make her believable as a head strong teen, I just wanted to shake some sense into her. Similarly, the letters from Julia to Emmy went on a little too long, and Gwen's deception by not telling her mother about Julia just seemed to prolong the story to an excruciatingly slow pace.

Cheryl has never been the right kind of country-club wife. She's always felt like an outsider, and now, in her midforties - facing the harsh realities of aging while her marriage disintegrates and her troubled stepson, Teddy, is kicked out of college - she feels cast adrift by the sparkling seaside community of Little Neck Cove, Connecticut. So when Teddy shows up at home just as a storm brewing off the coast threatens to destroy the precarious safe haven of the cove, she joins him in an epic downward spiral.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I would have liked more character development- somehow I could not understand the motivations, or lack thereof, of the two main characters. I kept reading and waiting to try to figure out why the main characters were acting the way that seemed illogical. It left a lot of unanswered questions.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I think the ending would have been great if I could have understand more about the choices that the characters made.
What about Bernadette Dunne’s performance did you like?
Great narration.
What character would you cut from The Invaders?
I never did get the Steven character- and Jeffrey was just a huge jerk.

Story
Addie Baum is "The Boston Girl", born in 1900 to immigrant parents who were unprepared for and suspicious of America and its effect on their three daughters. Growing up in the North End, then a teeming multicultural neighborhood, Addie's intelligence and curiosity take her to a world her parents can’t imagine - a world of short skirts, movies, celebrity culture and new opportunities for women.

A lovely book!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Boston Girl: A Novel to be better than the print version?
This author has a long list of literary works and beloved novels. This book in particular, hit home with me as it is a coming of age story for a young woman who is navigating the world of Boston as a first generation American and daughter of Jewish immigrants. The Yiddish language used is so colorful and expressive. At times a very sad story, but filled with wit and charm.
What about Linda Lavin’s performance did you like?
Great voice and inflection, and perfect pronunciation of the Yiddish terms.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
