I really enjoyed this book, it scratches an itch for something like the tv show yellowjackets but with a focus on the cool spooky strange woods aspect

A great read from a great narrator! This story was anxiety-inducing with a thick fog of dreadfulness and I had to listen to it straight through without stops

Story
Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Creepy and well written, weird narrator
Reviewed: 02-27-19
I really enjoyed the writing style, amazing description and writing. There were unique images that were disturbing and randomly off-putting that made it memorable.
The narrator would do a spectacular job in a book with only a kid narrator or a story of a different tone. It really took away from scary scenes. It was an exact impression of Ron Howard narrating Arrested Development.

This was very different than her other books and generally I look for a simple, fun story in between big reads but wow this was so great she is phenomenal!

Story
If Indiana Jones lived in the X-Files era, he might bear at least a passing resemblance to Nolan Moore - a rogue archaeologist hosting a documentary series derisively dismissed by the "real" experts, but beloved by conspiracy theorists. Nolan sets out to retrace the steps of an explorer from 1909 who claimed to have discovered a mysterious cavern high up in the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon. And, for once, he may have actually found what he seeks. Then the trip takes a nasty turn, and the cave begins turning against them in mysterious ways.

This was a great listen with interesting twists, and I particularly enjoyed the performer's accents for the different characters.
This is definitely not really similar to the movie "the descent" in case you're thinking it was by the books description. It was unique and unsettling for a closterphobic listener!

Story
Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims' graves in remote Dread's Hand, Alaska. It's not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest. But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out.

The book begins a little slowly but after the first two chapters I couldn't stop listening. I do not generally find myself creeped out but holy moly the author does such a great job of it that I can't look at the woods without my stomach turning!
The reader did a great job, but the women author than Jill's voices were nails on chalkboard.

It was a captivating story. The reader did a great child's voice and every voice other than any male parts. Other female readers have mever been so audibly weird with the male parts.
The blog posts were super annoying.

Story
In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up. This is the shocking true story of an American dream that turned into a nightmare beyond imagining for the Lutz family, who were forced to flee their new home in terror.
