And so it begins.... In the United States, the Department of Defense and the NSA computer networks have been hacked. A nuclear-armed CIA drone has lost all flight control. North Korea...Iran...Russia...and soon the gates of Hell will open. Humanity's most terrifying nightmare has become reality. Bombs are detonated, missiles are launched, counterstrikes are ordered, and within minutes, untold thousands of megatons have left countless millions dead or dying. Great story, but
Reviewed: 06-18-24
Great story, but sorry - I just don’t care for this narrator. Even with noise cancelling headphones, this narrator is hard to hear sometimes and what feels to me like a bedtime story type delivery. The descriptions of the nuclear exchange, while not extremely graphic are chilling. The characters are well developed, and the story is not overly predictable, but is also very plausible.

Surprising good, but not what I'd expected.
Sometimes the brief description doesn't do the a great job of prepping the reader.
Worth the time.

GREAT short(er) story

This is one of my most recent most enjoyed stories from one of my favorite authors.
Blake sticks to what he does best and gives us a gripping story.
No spoilers here - you have to read (or listen).
Well worth the time.

Great story, except

Great author who writes great stories.
But he falls into the same trap as so many others and including not so subtle messages about climate change throughout the story. These little side notes are not even subtle and distract from an otherwise great story.
This was a good story and would have been great without the climate change signaling.
Stick to what you do best Daniel. The book could have been 5 stars.

Story
It was a day like any other. Except it was our last.... It’s on this day that Pounce discovers that he is, in fact, disposable. Pounce, a styilsh "nannybot" fashioned in the shape of a plush anthropomorphic tiger, has just found a box in the attic. His box. The box he'd arrived in when he was purchased years earlier, and the box in which he'll be discarded when his human charge, eight-year-old Ezra Reinhart, no longer needs a nanny. As Pounce ponders his suddenly uncertain future, the pieces are falling into place for a robot revolution that will eradicate humankind.

Potentially good story ruined by too much virtue overtones
Reviewed: 08-27-22
I was really interested in the story but was put off quickly by the not so subtle “virtues “that quickly began to take the place of what should have been the interesting parts of the story

Story
A veteran of the Iraq war is appointed undersecretary of defense in order to penetrate a secret government purposely black-shelving zero-point energy, a clean, abundant energy source reverse-engineered from downed UFOs. Steve Alten's Undisclosed is a mind-opening thriller of "faction" that incorporates testimonials from military and intelligence personnel who were actual eyewitnesses and participants involved in the greatest secret in history.

Distracted with strong political opinions
Reviewed: 10-02-21
What seems like it would be a great story kept getting interrupted with an Anti-Trump political agenda that made it too distracting to continue.
Had to bail - nine chapters in that message still kept coming up.
If I wanted to read about political opinions there are plenty of other books out there
